In just a couple of weeks a new type of interactive fiction will be launching on PC and mobile, and it’s a mixture of some of the best interactive fiction, escape room, and alternate reality games around. If you enjoyed experiences like Device 6, Blackbar, Her Story, and any number of adventure or escape room games, then chances are pretty good you’ll enjoy Unmemory from Spanish developer Patrones y Escondites and publisher Plug In Digital. You’ll play as a man who is trying to solve the mystery of who murdered his girlfriend, but unfortunately you’re suffering from severe memory loss, so you’ll need to search through all manner of media in order to find clues and put the pieces together about both who the killer could be and who you yourself are. In this way Unmemory has been compared to Christopher Nolan’s fantastic and mind-twisting 2000 film Memento. Here is a brand new trailer showcasing the overall crazy vibe of Unmemory.
We’ve seen a lot of neat interactive storytelling ideas on mobile over the years, but not since Simogo’s Device 6 way back in 2013 has a game seemed so poised to break new ground in the genre. What I’m trying to get at is that I’m ultra excited to see what Unmemory is all about, and if you are like me, then you can look forward to getting your hands on the game when it arrives on iOS, Android, and Steam on October 13th. If you want to be sure you don’t lose track of this one you can pre-order it on the iOS App Store here, pre-register on the Android Google Play Store here, or Wishlist it on Steam here. We will definitely be diving deeper into Unmemory when it hits next month. In the meantime you can get a taste of the game via this free web demo which will run right in your device’s browser (just be sure to give it enough time to load).
