Ubisoft Forward Sees the Return of ‘Scott Pilgrim’ and More

While not all of the news from Ubisoft’s presentation was Switch-related, there were a few pieces of news that should have Switch players happy. First up, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World: The Game is coming back this holiday season on Switch and other platforms. It includes all the DLC and will sell for $14.99. Nice! Immortals Fenyx Rising looks mighty impressive and will bring its brand of action-adventure to Switch on December 3rd. Finally, a remake of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time was announced and although it will be coming later than on other systems, Ubisoft has confirmed a Switch port is in the works.

New Releases

Inertial Drift ($19.99)

SwitchArcade Highlight!

Wow, two really good arcade-style racers released in two days? Each offering a distinct experience, which means you might want to buy both of them? Neat. Even though I yakked my guts out a couple of days ago, I’m still calling this week a win. Anyway, as you can probably guess from the name and the screenshot, this racer leans heavily on drifting mechanics, and the tracks are built to encourage that behavior. It uses a cool twin-stick set-up that allows you to manage your drift with the right stick. You get 16 different cars, 20 tracks, a single-player story mode, and multiplayer in both local and online forms. Stylish, fast, and fun.

Golf Zero ($4.99)

SwitchArcade Highlight!

Oh hey, I know this one. Colin Lane’s awesome golf platformer makes its way from mobile to the Switch courtesy of the folks at Ratalaika Games. You get more than 80 levels of jumping, sliding, and doing whatever it takes to dodge the obstacles standing between you and the hole. It’s a few dollars more here than the ad-removing IAP for the mobile version costs, but I think it’s a fair price for a ridiculously enjoyable game. Give it a try for free on your phone first if you want to get the idea.

Firework ($14.99)

You know, I wasn’t expecting much from this game. It didn’t look great in the screenshots and I always roll my eyes a wee bit when the game description compares the game to some legendary classics. But you know, this is kind of good. The main character moves in a style very similar to X from Mega Man X, and the level designs are solid. It’s only a few hours long, which is about on par with the average Mega Man game. I wish it were a little longer, though. If you like your 2D action-platformers and don’t mind that you’re spending fifteen bucks for a few hours of entertainment, you may want to pick up Firework. It’s a lot cheaper on Steam, which is the main reason why I’m not giving it a Highlight. Grab it there if you’re okay with playing on your computer.

Doodle Derby ($7.99)

This is a side-scrolling physics-based platformer/racer with just the right amount of stupid to make it fun. It reminds me a bit of an old Game Boy game from Konami called Motocross Maniacs in some ways. At any rate, you get a single player campaign where you need to build the courses in order to reach the goal and a multiplayer mode where you’re able to mess with other people’s courses. That multiplayer functions both in local play and online, so it’s not too hard to get some people together. There are lots of wacky elements leading to some truly chaotic races. It’s fun both solo and with other people, which isn’t a trick we see pulled off often enough. Not bad at all.

WeakWood Throne ($4.99)

A little action-RPG with a colorful look to it. I wish I could say it’s a great little sleeper title or something, but the only thing “sleeper" about it is how dull it is. When you add in a cumbersome UI, some collision detection issues, and a somewhat cumbersome set of controls, you’re left with a game that doesn’t have a whole lot to offer. The price is reasonable, I suppose, but this is one of those times where you’re probably better off pocketing the fiver to buy a bounty of delicious Snickers bars.

Othercide ($39.99)

This tactical RPG takes a bit of work to wrap your head around, but once you do it’s quite unique and interesting. It doesn’t hurt that the setting and story are rather mysterious and compelling, but the star of the show is the cool Dynamic Timeline System that puts an emphasis on building chains against enemies and trying to counter their actions. If you’re just looking for something to mindlessly putter away at, Othercide isn’t going to be the game for you. If, on the other hand, you’re tired of the same old song and dance in this genre, you might find yourself in love with its intriguing premise and clever battle system.

Mushroom Savior ($4.99)

The follow-up to Mushroom Quest, Mushroom Savior gives you a whole new dungeon full of deadly traps, portals, and other obstacles and gimmicks. Solve the puzzles, rescue your kidnapped friends, and take down the evil tree behind it all. If you played the first one, there won’t be any major surprises here. It’s another relatively chill puzzle game to spend an evening with if you’re so inclined.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

It’s a big list, to be sure. A lot of it is the usual Digerati stuff, but there are some treasures to be found in there if you look hard enough. Like Legrand Legacy for a mere two bucks! There are some nice discounts on The Friends of Ringo Ishikawa and Arrest of a Stone Buddha as well. There’s some good stuff in the outbox as well, so read through everything carefully and make the decisions that are right for your wallet. Reminder: we’re heading into the cuckoo-bananas release quarter of the year, so there will probably be a lot of upcoming games that will catch your eye. Don’t blow all your loot in early September like some kind of rookie.

That’s all we’ve got for today and this week, friends. It was a bit of an odd one with me missing a day, but we’re back on track again and should be good to go next week. Just in time, too. Lots of great stuff coming next week, including Super Mario 3D All-Stars, the game poised to be the highest-selling limited release of all-time. I hope you all have a great weekend, and as always, thanks for reading!
