Ahead of ‘Fortnite’ Chapter 2 – Season 4 Next Week, Epic Is Hosting a #FreeFortnite Cup on All Platforms

If you’ve been paying attention to gaming news recently even outside mobile gaming, you probably know about the Epic Games and Apple ongoings with Fortnite being pulled from the App Store. It was then followed by Google pulling it from Google Play as well. This is because Epic Games bypassed Apple and Google in app purchases policies. This led to Epic filing a suit against both Google and Apple. Since then, Apple has threatened to terminate Epic Games’ complete developer agreement which brings Unreal Engine into the fray alongside countless developers. Today, Epic Games announced a #FreeFortnite cup for this Sunday giving all players one last chanc to play together before iOS users lose access to the game on August 27th. The cup will take place on August 23rd worldwide. It will be available from the compete tab for four hours. You can compete in up to 12 matches and earn points depending on your progress.

Players who take part in the #FreeFortnite cup can earn points to unlock various in-game rewards that make fun of Apple in some way. Epic is also offering actual physical prizes including a PS4 Pro, Xbox One X, Nintendo Switch, Android phones, and a cap. Details for the prizes are on the official website here. On August 27th, Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 4 goes live and if Epic can’t update the iOS app by then, users will lose access. It is going to be interesting to see how next week plays out with Apple’s deadline of August 28th approaching. On Android, you can still get Fortnite on Epic’s own launcher and the Samsung store. On iOS, if you don’t already have it, you’re gonna need to wait and see what result follows next week. Epic managed making Sony open up to cross play with other consoles. Prior to that, PlayStation players had cross play options with PC in a few games but Fortnite was a big part of making more developers push for cross play. As of now, Fortnite is not available on the App Store and Google Play on mobile.
