SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid’ Season 3 Announced, ‘Pokemon Sword and Shield’ Mystery Gifts, the Latest Sales, and More

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for May 25th, 2020. I’m not going to lie, friends: this week is a bit of a wild one. There are so many games hitting at the end of the week that I’m actually a bit scared of all the work I’ve got ahead of me. Oh well, that sounds like a problem for Shaun of the Future. Shaun of the Present doesn’t have any new games to look at, but there’s some cool news to dig into. We’ve also got a bunch of sales to check out that popped up over the weekend. Let’s have a gander!

‘Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid’ Season 3 Announced

Everyone loves a good comeback story, and that’s pretty much what has happened with Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid. A game that launched in a rather rough and threadbare state has, over time, become the Marvel vs Capcom-style fighter no one else seems willing to give us these days. People seem to be picking up on the game, and it seems that success is helping it grow further. The Season 3 DLC contents have been announced, and you can once again look forward to three new characters and a new character skin. Robert “RJ" James, the Jungle Fury Wolf Ranger, and Lauren Shiba, the Red Samurai Ranger, represent the forces of good. The third character is yet to be announced, but the silhouette seems to point to Scorpina. The new skin is the Phantom Beast King skin for Dai Shi, and there’s a new Ultra in the form of the Samurai Megazord. The first character will arrive in late June, with the remainder rolling out over the next several months. Morphinomenonal!

‘Pokemon Sword and Shield’ Mystery Gifts Offer Galarian Pokemon

Pokemon Sword and Shield may have had a mixed response from fans in the lead-up to its release, but that didn’t stop it from selling like wild. With the expansion content on the horizon, many players will have a reason to pick this game up again soon enough. But if you pick it up again now, you’ll be able to claim some free Mystery Gifts that Nintendo is distributing over the next few weeks. From now until May 27th, Galarian Mr. Mime is available along with an Item Pack. From the 28th to June 3rd, Galarian Ponyta will be available with another pack of items. From June 4th to the 10th, Galarian Corsola is the Pokemon pick-up, complete with some useful evolution items. Finally, from June 11th to the 17th, Galarian Meowth arrives toting some Big Nuggets and Exp. Candies with him. To get these Pokemon, just start up the game during the appropriate period and choose Get a Mystery Gift from the menu. Then pick Get via Internet and you’ll be all set. You don’t even need a Switch Online subscription!

‘Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night’ Update Finally Hits Switch

The big update for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night that hit other platforms a couple of weeks ago is now available on the Nintendo Switch. This update features two major content additions. Zangetsu is now a playable character for those who have completed the game and reached the good ending. Zangetsu can’t use shards, instead relying on his sword techniques to defeat his foes. The second piece of content is the Randomizer mode, which allows you to adjust eight different parameters to create new experiences. This update is free for all players.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

Lots of new sales, though it’s filled with many of the usual weekend faces. We’ve got a new low price for Roundguard, if you’d rather own it than “borrow" it via Apple Arcade. I’d also recommend Feudal Alloy, a flawed but fun exploratory platformer, and Hyper Sentinel, a cool follow-up to microcomputer classic Uridium. The outbox sees sales from Bandai Namco, SEGA, and Ubisoft coming to an end. It’s likely all three will be running discounts again before too long, but if you want to play them now, do the thing you need to do.
