SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Deadly Premonition 2’ Release Date Set, ‘Indivisible’ and Today’s Other New Releases, the Latest Sales, and More

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for April 29th, 2020. Today, we’ve got four new releases to take a look at, including a couple of really cool ones. There are some news bits to check into, and some piping fresh new sales to take a gander at. Tomorrow’s going to be a big one, of that there’s no doubt, but even today is a bit of a wild one for a Wednesday. Let’s have a look!

News

‘Deadly Premonition 2’ Set for July 10 Release

Deadly Premonition 2 is one of those titles you would never have expected to see given how niche the original title was, but here we are. The game was announced a while ago, but we now have a firm date as to when the game can be expected to launch: July 10th. Wow, that’s not too near nor too far! Perhaps if you watch the announcement trailer several thousand times it will help you pass the time. To celebrate the announcement of the release date, the original game is now on sale for half-price. If you’ve never played it before, it’s a very quirky Twin Peaks-inspired adventure that really is unlike anything else.

This Week’s ‘Super Smash Bros.’ Event is a Clash of Titans

What happens when an unstoppable force meets an infinitely squishy object? We’re about to find out in the latest event for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which pits Donkey Kong and his crew against Kirby and associates. It’s a tournament event where only the fighters from the two franchises can be used, so get practicing if you’re not used to any of them. The tournament kicks off this Friday and will run through the weekend as usual. I mean, Kirby’s got to be the winner, right?

New Releases

Indivisible ($29.99)

SwitchArcade Highlight!

Lab Zero’s Valkyrie Profile-ish action-RPG Indivisible made a sudden and surprising appearance on the eShop yesterday. So surprising, in fact, that even Lab Zero wasn’t aware of it. This release is apparently missing a few features like New Game+ that will be coming soon enough, but what’s here is quite polished and complete. People were, amusingly enough, a bit divided on this game when it came out on other platforms, and I doubt it’s going to go all that different on Switch. But it’s gorgeous, creative, and certainly refined, so if those are elements that appeal to you, you may want to give this a closer look.

Dread Nautical ($19.99)

SwitchArcade Highlight!

Most TouchArcade readers will likely know this game from its appearance on Apple Arcade, and as is the case with many of the other games that have appeared on both platforms, it’s going to come down to whether you’re willing to pay the price to “keep" the game. It’s a solid strategy RPG with a very cool premise, and the survival elements make it a different sort of challenge from the norm. The transition to the Switch is a smooth one, so it’s really about whether you think you’ll want to replay this down the road sometime. If you’re only going to run through it once, you can do it cheaper and just as well on Apple Arcade. Otherwise? I think twenty bucks is a fair price for what you get here.

Active Neurons – Puzzle Game ($4.99)

Friends, this isn’t Steam or the App Store. You don’t have to put the genre of your game in the title. No one actually searches for things that way on the eShop, anyway. Sigh. Anyway, this is Active Neurons – Puzzle Game. From the screenshot, you probably can’t guess what kind of puzzle game it is. Well, you know those types of puzzles you often see in RPGs where you have to push blocks across ice? It’s more or less like those, but with more tricks and gimmicks in play. Not bad for what it is, though it’s a bit on the plain side.

StarCrossed ($9.99)

This one has an interesting design, to be sure. There are five different characters, and you choose two to take into battle. Or you can play with a friend and each take one character. You have to battle enemies by bouncing shots between the two characters, making for an interesting cooperative experience. Honestly, I’m not really confident this works as well if you’re playing alone. You have to do that thing where you control two characters at once, which can be a little hairy. If you’ve got someone to play with locally, this is definitely worth a spin. Otherwise, I’d only recommend it to people looking for a very tough, albeit unique, action game.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

Today’s list is small but powerful, I think. Deadly Premonition Origins has a huge sale going on for the first time since it launched, and is definitely worth taking a gamble with that discount taken into account. Toki is finally at a price where curious retro-seekers may want to give it a go, and there’s a firm launch discount on Indivisible that makes it easier to jump on it. There are some goodies in the outbox too, and Picross fans in particular will want to take advantage of the sales on the Picross S titles as they’re not likely to return again for a very long time.
