SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Update Incoming, ‘ITTA’ and Today’s Other New Release, the Latest Sales, and More

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for April 22nd, 2020. In today’s article, we’ve got a pair of fun new releases to take a look at. There are also a few bits of news to cover, including a couple of events being added to this weekend’s already busy schedule. Finally, we’ve got a small but strong list of new sales to check out, with Capcom discounting a number of its games to some of their lowest prices yet. Nothing to it but through it; let’s dive on in!

News

‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Update Includes New Characters, Events, Items

After that big Super Mario Maker 2 update news hit yesterday, I never expected Nintendo to almost immediately follow it up with information on another big update. But here we are, and Nintendo has pulled back the curtain on a bunch of things coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons over the next little while. Leif the gardener and Redd the sly art vendor will now make the occasional appearance on your island, selling their typical wares. The addition of art means that the museum will be getting some expansions. Upcoming events Nature Day, May Day Tour, International Museum Day, and Wedding Season will keep you busy through the end of June, offering a variety of activities to enjoy and new items to collect. The first of the events, Nature Day, starts tomorrow. And you thought the Bunny Day nightmare was over.

‘Robotics;Notes’ Double Pack Coming to Switch

As you may be able to guess from that odd semi-colon usage, Robotics;Notes is a series of visual novels from the same minds as Steins;Gate. We knew that English versions of Robotics;Notes Elite and Robotics;Notes Dash would be coming to Switch at some point, but Spike Chunsoft has revealed more details about the releases. First, the two games will be coming in a special Double Pack, giving you double the punch for one cool price. Second, we now have a specific release date: October 13th, 2020. Neat. I loved Steins;Gate, so it’s safe to say that I’ll be there for this awesome pack.

Go Through Some Trials in the Latest ‘Super Smash Bros.’ Event

Yeah, it’s that time of the week again already. As you all may or may not know, Square Enix has a rather nice-looking new game coming out this week on the Nintendo Switch and other platforms. Well, sort of new, anyway. Trials of Mana‘s 3D remake is looking quite a bit more ambitious than those of the previous two games, and Nintendo is clearly high on it as they are adding some spirits representing the game to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in a new event celebrating its release. The five-day event starts on the same day the game releases, giving you plenty of time to collect the three new spirits. Gosh, there are a lot of events to juggle this weekend.

New Releases

TaniNani ($4.99)

SwitchArcade Highlight!

A cute little puzzler where you’re moving around chunks of levels to reunite two characters and help them reach a crystal. There are 120 levels spread across 10 different worlds, and a bunch of unlockable outfits you can use to dress up Tani and Nani. It seems a bit breezy at first, but it quickly gets quite chaotic as you really need to time certain moves carefully. This has been out on mobile for a few months now, but this version is almost the same price and plays just as well. I rather like it, and if you like puzzle games the way I do, I think you will too.

ITTA ($14.99)

SwitchArcade Highlight!

I’m recommending this with a couple of provisos. This is a twin-stick shooter that basically consists of 18 boss battles, with some light exploration in between each. Those boss battles are bullet-heavy affairs, at times filling the screen with shots. Yeah, we’ve seen this sort of idea before in some form or another, so if you’re looking for something innovative in the mechanical sense, this isn’t it. That said, the combination of the lovely art and intriguing story give this game the special sauce it needs to stand out from a rather dense pack. And while the gameplay isn’t anything particularly novel, it’s done well enough that you’ll likely have a good time with it.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

Capcom has sales regularly enough that I don’t want to ring the chow-bell too hard just because some of its games are appearing in our list yet again. But there are a couple of games here hitting new low prices, so you may want to give things a closer look. Just, you know, don’t buy Devil May Cry 2. Even for a discount price, it’s not worth it. Apart from the Capcom stuff, the only game that’s catching my eye is Deathtrap Dungeon Trilogy. It’s good stuff, but I’m not sure I need more RPGs than I’ve already got on my plate right now. As for the outbox, it’s fairly big and has some nice gems like Dandy Dungeon, Monkey Barrels, and RIVE on offer. Make sure you give it a good sifting-through to see that you’ve grabbed everything you want.

That’s all we’ve got going on today, friends. We’ll be back tomorrow with what looks to be a metric ton of new releases, the latest sales, and probably not much more than that. Personally, I’ve been bitten by the Super Mario Maker 2 bug and am now trying to build my own Super World. Wish me luck! I hope you all have a great Wednesday, and as always, thanks for reading!
