Best iPhone Game Updates: ‘Marvel Future Fight’, ‘Phoenix 2’, ‘Mario Kart Tour’, ‘Injustice 2’, and More

TouchArcade Rating:

Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. Well, it’s a big old pile of free-to-play games this week. What can I say? They update a lot. That’s just how it is. But there are definitely some cool games in here, so don’t run off. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper or by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!

Dan The Man, Free Dan the Man updates again, and once again the update notes don’t give me a whole lot to go on. The biggest thing here is that there are some new enemies in the survival mode. The notes claim that there are hundreds of new special fighters to hunt down and battle. If you get their tokens you can win some cool rewards. That seems to be the size of it, though I’d be awfully surprised if there weren’t also some bug fixes and performance improvements in here. It’s just what is done, after all.

Jetpack Joyride, Free While we’re checking in on Halfbrick, here’s an update for its other big staple mobile game. Jetpack Joyride brings back the Bling It On event with this update, giving you another chance to grab gold bars that can be used to unlock goodies like Golden S.A.M., the Golden Tophat, and more. Just like last time, this is a limited-time event, so get in on it if you want those golden treasures.

Phoenix 2, Free Boom, it’s time for an update to the awesome shoot-em-up Phoenix 2. The big news for most players will be the new sped-up animations that let you tap the screen to get through scoring screens, mission briefings, dialogues, and other such stuff that rudely interrupt your shooting pleasure. This version also adds characters that will keep you updated on your progress, but if you don’t start from scratch you won’t be properly introduced to them. There are also some new prologue and training missions for players who are just getting started. This is where you’ll find the primary ability tutorials now, too. There are a few other things in here, but those be the highlights.

SEGA Heroes: RPG Match 3 Games, Free Even good guys blow it! It’s a quote often uttered by the latest addition to the game, Virtua Fighter‘s Sarah Bryant. It’s also something players of SEGA Heroes may find themselves saying if the update to the Arena doesn’t go well. Yes, that trustworthy source of free gems for players is finally getting overhauled, and I’ve been down this road with enough games to know that it probably isn’t going to work out for the better for most players. Surprise me, SEGA!

Subway Surfers, Free Okay, Valentine’s Day is now in the rear-view mirror, but you know what? Every day is an appropriate day to express and appreciate love for your friends, family, and significant other. So it’s fine that we’re talking about Subway Surfers‘s trip to Paris even though Valentine’s Day has passed us by. Grab the Sweetheart Board, add the mime Coco to your team, and head out to the beautiful locales in one of Europe’s most popular cities for romantics. Collect heart-shaped boxes along the way and try to win some nice prizes.

MARVEL Future Fight, Free Hail Hydra! Fans of Marvel’s comics will likely remember the big Secret Empire event from a couple of years ago, no matter how hard they try to forget. Not helping you in your task is this update to Marvel Future Fight, which celebrates the ill-timed event with new uniforms for Cap, Red Skull, Doc Ock, and Crossbones. New characters Baron Zemo, Viper, and Taskmaster have also been added, helping fill out the Hydra roster. Remember when Scott Lang sold out the good guys to Nazi Cap? Ha, what a… what a great event that was for so many characters.

Injustice 2, Free It’s been a bit since the last update to Injustice 2, but DC’s got a new movie out so there’s no better time to make some additions and adjustments. A Refactored Suicide Squad Harley Quinn becomes the game’s first female Legendary fighter, and her new passive ability Psychoanalyze seems nasty. It can stack stat reductions on the enemy team and give buffs to her team. Also, having Joker anywhere in the brawl will give Harley some benefit or another. If he’s on her team, she gains Attack. If he’s on the other team, she gains Stun and Damage Over Time resistance. Marksman Deadshot also gets a Refactor to become Suicide Squad Deadshot. He now has synergies with other Suicide Squad members and gains a couple of useful passives. Good luck getting both of these great fighters!

Mario Kart Tour, Free Mario Kart Tour is one of my guilty pleasure games. I don’t know, I find it amusing. Plus you get some weird mash-ups of Mario and the real world. Tokyo, Paris, London, and now? Vancouver! Wow, how did Canada end up so high on that list? I don’t know, but I’ll take it. Mario and the gang zip around suspension bridges and snowy mountains while the Aurora Borealis shines overhead. At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the country, localized entirely within your app? Yep! And if you’re very lucky, you may get your hands on Aurora Rosalina or Hitchhiker Wario. Ah, cheap appeals to my home country. What can I say? They work! Enjoy the coveted UMMSotW award, Nintendo!

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, Free Well, while we’re checking in with Nintendo we might as well see what’s going on in Animal Crossing Pocket Camp. Enjoy your time now, little app: a month from now not many Animal Crossing fans will need you as a holdover anymore. So what do you have for us today? Mmm. A second floor for the cabin. That’s alright. You can now eat multiple fortune cookies at once. Living your best life, I guess. Some improvements to Pocket Camp Club features, which I’m sure all four of its subscribers will be happy to see. And finally some UI adjustments. Sure, why not? Ah, I can’t wait for Animal Crossing New Horizons, friends. It’s been way too long since the last real Animal Crossing game.

Toon Blast, Free And we’ll wrap things up with our obligatory free-to-play puzzle game update. It’s Toon Blast this time, and that means Shaun is going to have a laugh at the update notes. As usual, it’s 50 new levels and they don’t have anything to do with these notes. So let’s see… it’s apparently to do with fortune telling this time. Cooper on the card deck, Bruno on the crystal ball, Wally on the tarot and a big bon-homme, everybody tell me have you heard? Pop goes the world! Ha ha, now you’re remembering a song nobody ever needs to remember! Smell ya later, fools!

That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
