Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. Lots of interesting updates to check out this week, though most of them are for the free-to-play games that often make appearances in this feature. Not so many event-focused ones this week, at least. Anyway, I’ve gathered some of the more intriguing ones for you to look over as you eat your meal of choice. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper or by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!
Gardenscapes, Free On to the next holiday, then. Valentine’s Day is upon us, friends. And there’s lots of love to go around in the world of Gardenscapes. The Valentine’s Day event sees you decorating the garden to provide the right atmosphere for a romantic date between William and Olivia. There’s also something about renovating the bathroom so you can wash the dog, which I’m guessing constitutes Austin’s Valentine’s Day plans. Meanwhile in the main story, Austin and the gang are making a movie about Atlantis for some reason. You’ll be growing plants from all over the world, and in the most shocking news of all, Austin is getting an intern! I didn’t even know butlers had interns. That’s the gig economy for you.
SEGA Heroes: RPG Match 3 Games, Free SEGA Heroes gets another update with the latest event taking the front stage with some little tweaks and adjustments silently happening in the background. The big razzle-dazzle is that the Virtua Fighter gang has shown up to the game, with Pai Chan arriving last week and Kagemaru available this week. Who will the remaining two fighters be? One will probably be Akira Yuki, but it’s harder to guess the fourth. Personally, I’m hoping for Jeffry McWild. He’s my guy. It’s harder to figure out other changes in the update since the notes don’t really cover them, but I did spot a couple of UI changes.
ANOTHER EDEN, Free Another Eden: it’s apparently one year old now? For some reason, I thought it had been around longer than that. How can years feel so fast and so slow at the same time? Truly a mystery, time is. Speaking of time mysteries, the latest content in Another Eden offers a new Manifestation in the form of Weapon Discovery. Alongside that is a new encounter with Lokido (Another Style) and a paid encounter called Star Dream. Add in the usual bug fixes and corrections to writing mistakes, and that’s about it for this one.
Puzzle & Dragons (English), Free Puzzle & Dragons continues to roll along, which is pretty impressive considering its age. If you ask me, the mobile version is still the best version of the game around, with the various console renditions always missing out on some of the fun one way or another. This latest update adds a new Story Dungeon that unlocks at Rank 20. You can also unlock additional Latent Awoken Skill slots if you need them. Finally, the Monster Attack Multiplier displays have been adjusted. Bug fixes? Yeah, there are some bug fixes. Probably a bit of seeding for future events as well. That’s how this all works, after all.
Disney Heroes: Battle Mode, Free Well, we checked in on the SEGA Heroes, we might as well see how the Disney Heroes are doing. Don’t worry, they’re in Battle Mode as usual. The latest update offers up a couple of new characters, both of whom are relatively obscure depending on how deep your Disney knowledge goes. Most people here will probably know Magica from DuckTales thanks to the brand having a pretty big footprint in the video game world, but the other character, Kida from Disney’s Atlantis? She’s a bit of a deep cut. This update also includes some bug fixes and other improvements. Gee, who’s going to be next? Captain Amelia from Treasure Planet? Maggie from Home on the Range? Surprise me, friends!
Power Rangers: Legacy Wars, Free Sometimes I wonder if the whole Go Go Power Rangers thing is a subtle nod to the fact that there are five Rangers and the Japanese word for ‘five’ is ‘go’. Previous incarnations of the Rangers in Japan have been known as Go-Rangers for that reason, so maybe that’s the source? I don’t know. But I do know Legacy Wars got a new update that adds Corruption Zones to the game where Zeo Shards are trapped. Go in there and clear them out and earn yourself some morphers. This update also adds skins as cosmetic items, kicking things off with throwback 90s outfits for Tommy, Jason, and Trini from the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Wonder how much those will cost?
HyperBrawl Tournament, Let’s take a rare spin into Apple Arcade territory to check in on a cool update for Hyperbrawl Tournament. It adds a new hero, Sir Gallant, who is available from Level 20. It also adds a new arena called Steelhenge and new 80s-style synth music for every arena. Apart from those additions, you also get some performance improvements, fixes to save data issues, some UI tweaks, and the enabling of macOS matchmaking with iOS and tvOS players. Hopefully that will help the player pool stay nice and healthy.
Asphalt 8: Airborne, Free Yeah, I think it’s kind of weird that Asphalt 8 is still getting content updates when even Asphalt 9 has been around for a while now, but who’s going to complain about free stuff? Not this guy. Anyway, this is a Lunar New Year-themed update, and it is less about new content than bringing back some older content that has been out of circulation for a while. Patagonia gets a re-skin for the Lunar New Year, and the previous Lunar New Year special edition cars have been re-released. The Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG Special Edition, the Audi R8 e-tron Special Edition, and the TVR Sagaris Special Edition are all back. Joining them is the newest Lunar New Year car, the Infiniti Project Black S Special Edition. Some other stuff is going on around the event, so feel free to check in and see what’s up.
Last Day on Earth: Survival, Free What even is this? I don’t know. But I do know this: it’s pretty darned popular, and it had a recent update. So here it is, as it should be. In the latest version of the game, Season 5 kicks off with some new bosses: Gnarly Billy, Feral Jesse, and Lucy Luck. Those… are some great names, actually. A new event called Shelling is apparently coming, and that refers to mortar blasts, not removing sea creatures from their carapaces. A new temporary location, the Mine, has been added, and you can now customize your underwear and backpack, which is a sentence I thought I would never ever get paid to type. Also: bear hunting? Perhaps in your underwear? Alrighty then.
Star Traders: Frontiers, $6.99 Sure, let’s finish things off with a tasty treat in the form of a Trese Brothers update. Star Traders: Frontiers has a new version available, and with it comes a few good improvements and additions. For example, a new ship! It is called the 6000M Extremis Carrier, which is a solid name for a big spacefaring vessel. Some improvements have been made to the strength of Contact’s Ironclad Access black market level, and a bunch of other little tweaks and improvements have been made in the usual fashion for this developer. Also as usual? I’m giving it the coveted UMMSotW award for this week. Enjoy!
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
