Best iPhone Game Updates: ‘You Must Build A Boat’, ‘Mario Kart World Tour’, ‘Marvel Contest of Champions’, ‘Knives Out’, ‘Fallout Shelter’, ‘WWE Champions’ and More

TouchArcade Rating:

Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. American Thanksgiving is creeping up on us, and we’re starting to see its effects in the updates. Only a couple this time around, but I’m sure next week will be full of turkey. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, mind you. I’ve gathered some other interesting updates to go with those Thanksgiving updates. Hopefully, there will be something for everyone to enjoy. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper or by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!

Fallout Shelter, Free It’s been a while since we’ve looked in on the once tremendously-popular Fallout Shelter, so let’s see what’s up with it. The latest update seems to be all about planting the seeds for the upcoming Thanksgiving event, which kicks off on November 18th. You need to rescue to cook to get a prize, and you can customize your rooms and dwellers with holiday-appropriate attire. Also: something about a dancing turkey? I don’t know, friends.

Homescapes, Free Let’s keep those Thanksgiving updates rolling, then. Homescapes is also getting in on the season, which makes sense. Austin never misses out on a chance to eat turkey. The even kicks off in a few days and sees our favorite butler decorating his yard to help his friend William get into the Thanksgiving mood. If you collect all the decorations, you’ll get a huge turkey for your yard. Who wouldn’t want that? In non-Thanksgiving news, the Studio story is coming to an end. Pick up the new Bakery expansion to get ready for the next story. As far as new puzzle elements go, there are now colored pencils that require you to make combinations with the matching color to collect them.

Knives Out, Free Every once in a while, I like to throw a bone to Japan’s favorite battle royale game. I still can’t explain why Knives Out has done so well here, but it has. There’s even a Nintendo Switch version available here. Anyway, the game is celebrating its second anniversary somehow, and that means lots of goodies. If you log in, you’ll get lots of free vouchers, and tons of cash prizes are being given out. I assume in-game cash. A new limited event called Cake Tower Seize! is here for the occasion, and there are apparently even more rewards on the way.

WWE Champions, Free This may or may not be a surprise to regular readers, but there was a time where I was very into WWE. Like, really hardcore. Got my Mick Foley book signed by the man and everything. That time, roughly speaking, was the Attitude Era, the WWE’s second major boom where stars like Stone Cold Steve Austin, Mankind, and The Rock ruled the roost. That period is apparently around 20 years old now. Yikes. Anyway, this update celebrates that time by reliving some of the famous feuds from that time. It even celebrates contemporary WCW feuds like NWO vs. Sting. This update also includes a new way to improve and customize your Superstars: Superstar Titles. Something tells me that if you want to take full advantage of those, you’re going to have to grind like Val Venis at a house show.

Jurassic Worldâ„¢: The Game, Free Jurassic World! It’s certainly a game that features dinosaurs, if ever there were one. No dinosaurs in dinner jackets, but they can’t all be Avengers Academy. This update raises the park level cap to 85, which means you’ve got some work to do. There are four new MODs, creatures have been rebalanced, and unlocks have been modified. The aim here is to make the progression curve a little smoother. There will be some new creatures entering the park soon, too. Will one of them be a T-Rex in a dinner jacket? Probably not. But you know, Jurassic World publisher, it wouldn’t hurt to ask Marvel if you could borrow Devil Dinosaur for a cameo.

Mario Kart Tour, Free Like many of Nintendo’s other apps, Mario Kart World Tour doesn’t really feature many clues in its update notes. Well, joke’s on you, Mario Kart! I know what you added because I’m playing you! And what has been added is the new Paris Tour, which sees a couple of new racers up for grabs. Vacation Peach is the current top prize, and the next week will see a chef Shyguy in the hot seat. The Paris track features heavily, allowing you to cause a ruckus all around the Eiffel Tower and such.

Subway Surfers, Free The latest stop on the Subway Surfers tour is Houston, and this time I actually know why. Anyway, it’s the usual business. Cruise the subway past interstellar sites and green parks, add a freaking alien to your roster in the form of Alba, pick up a special space surfer look for Amy, and grab planet tokens to earn rewards. There’s apparently a sale on the Space Bundle if you want a leg up on all of this, too. But that’s cheating, and we all know where cheaters go, right?

Marvel Contest of Champions, Free Given the nature of the game, it’s not surprising that Contest of Champions has new playable characters added at a slower rate than other Marvel games. Case in point: Reed Richards is only now showing his face in the game. There’s a whole event where you have to free him from a nefarious scheme by none other than the dreadful Doctor Doom, and if that doesn’t get your mighty Marvel senses tingling, you must be a fan of the Distinguished Competition! A new chapter has been added to the story, and a bunch of updates and new features have been added to Alliances.

SEGA Heroes: RPG Match 3 Games, Free Nothing too earth-shaking in the SEGA Heroes update this time around. SEGA has added a login bonus calendar which will eventually get you some Shadow the Hedgehog shards, and this last week also saw the release of the final Chu Chu Rocket character. That means we’re due for a new franchise to hit, and your guess is as good as mine as to what it will be. This update almost certainly seeded it in, though. It’s been fun adding the various Chus to the game, and the cat is certainly an aggravating and enjoyable enemy to battle. Tsubabababaaa!

You Must Build A Boat, $2.99 Always love seeing a great game get an update after a long time without one. This latest version of You Must Build A Boat adds some new skins you can unlock in Daily Challenges, along with a Skin Manager to, well, manage them. It also packs in a few new localizations and makes some performance improvements, particularly with regards to how it handles resolution. Also, you can now view your achievements in-game, because it has become rather hard to do that outside of the game. That’s good enough for a coveted UMMSotW award, I think.

That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
