SwitchArcade Round-Up: The Upcoming ‘Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’ Event, ‘Deathstate: Abyssal Edition’ and Today’s Other New Releases, the Latest Sales, and More

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for September 18th, 2019. Okay, it’s a really short one today, but I have a good reason for it. First of all, there just isn’t much going on today. Not much to be done about that. Secondly, the next two days are going to be absolutely bananas so I’m beginning preparations for them now. So enjoy this little breather and brace yourself for the flood that’s coming in the next couple of weeks, friends. Let’s see what’s here!

It’s Mario Time in the Latest ‘Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’ Event

Yeah, I know. When is it not Mario Time? Mario Time all the time. When is LUIGI time? I don’t know. But I do know this: the latest event in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a tournament centered around Mario and his associated characters. Fighters and stages from the Mario universe will feature, and the more wins you rack up the better the quality of the spirits you’ll receive. The event kicks off this Friday and runs through the weekend, though I really do wonder who is going to be playing these events with all the great new games hitting recently.

New Releases

Deathstate: Abyssal Edition ($9.99)

SwitchArcade Highlight!

Yes, it’s another top-down roguelite shooter, but if they’re this good, I don’t mind the repetition. It’s got a cheeky Lovecraftian theme to it, and it’s jammed to the brim with neat things to unlock. It’s also bullet-hell as all get-out, so be prepared to weave through curtains of shots as you try to stay alive against horrific abominations. Not likely to convince anyone who is tired to death of these sorts of affairs, but otherwise this is a great way to spend ten bucks.

Rebel Cops ($9.99)

A spin-off from This Is The Police, Rebel Cops is a turn-based tactical strategy game where you play as a group of cops who are rebelling against the town’s new criminal leadership. It’s a pretty good game, but it’s really tough. One shot can kill one of your units, and supplies are hard to come by. That difficulty is a good balance against the game’s somewhat meager amount of content, I suppose. Not a long game once you work out how to knock it out, but that’s easier said than done. For the price, it’s fine.

Sales

Well, not a whole lot exciting here at the time of writing. There’s a nice launch discount on Sniper Elite III if that game has your interest, and if you want the latest R.B.I. Baseball that 50% discount is certainly enticing. The outbox has quite a lot in it, but it’s hard to say how exciting most of it is. Naturally you should grab Undertale if you don’t already have it, and puzzle fans would do well to grab one or more of Lightwood’s titles. I’d recommend Pic-a-Pix Deluxe, but any of them are good. I’m sure we’ll be seeing some interesting sales in the next day or two, however, so it might be smart to just save your money.

Well, that’s how September goes sometimes. I’ll see you all tomorrow for the first half of all of this, along with whatever news and sales catch my eye. Have a great day, and as always, thanks for reading!
