Best iPhone Game Updates: ‘Six Ages: Ride Like the Wind’, ‘Fire Emblem Heroes’, ‘Marvel Contest of Champions’, ‘Pocket Build’, and More

TouchArcade Rating:

Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. There were a couple of surprising names in the list this week, but for the most part it was the usual games doing what they do best: creating a constant churn of content so that players don’t have time to stop and think if they’re actually enjoying themselves. Ha ha, too meta, Shaun! Let’s have fun instead! Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper or by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!

SEGA Heroes: RPG Match 3 Games, Free SEGA Heroes has updated again, this time with some helpful features based on feedback from players. Before we get to that, I’ll mention that the Werewolf Centurion from Altered Beast was made available in this update, but I’m pretty sure he was already in the code before. What is definitely new this week is a button that lets you loot every single stage you’ve three-starred before in the Daily Challenges. That is a great feature, seriously. A giant version of Ebitan was added as a Guild Boss, as well.

Marvel Contest of Champions, Free It’s a long while until the next Marvel movie or TV show debut, and personally that makes me excited to see what the various Marvel apps do during this downtime. Contest of Champions is digging into the X-Men a little bit with the addition of Sunspot to the roster. He looks to be joined by Warlock, who should be a very interesting fighter indeed. This update also adds the Sinister Labs Event Quest, brings another Back Issue event in, and adds a monthly subscription thing because I guess everyone is doing that now. Self is not happy about that last addition and self suspects selffriends are also not thrilled.

MARVEL Strike Force: Squad RPG, Free Strike Force, on the other hand, is going with another staple of Marvel history: the Fantastic Four. I can’t remember what they did when the other apps started bringing in the FF, but I think at that time they really only talked about Doctor Doom and Sue? Well, this update pulls in the other three core Fantastic Four members along with Namor, giving us a nice set to represent Marvel’s First Family. This update also adds a limited-time trait for Marvel’s 80th Anniversary. Also, bug fixes! Who doesn’t like those? Bugs, I guess.

MARVEL Future Fight, Free Speaking of Marvel’s 80th Anniversary, that seems to be the focal point of this update to Marvel Future Fight. Three new characters have been added to the playable roster, each presumably representing a different era of the company’s history. We’ve got a Tier-3 Namor, a regular old Silver Surfer, and recently-created heroine Wave. The Fantastic Four can now suit up in their Future Foundation uniforms, and a new Heroic Quest associated with Wave has been added. Finally, there’s a new Giant Boss Raid. The target? Galactus, of course. Have fun saving the planet, friends!

Fire Emblem Heroes, Free Alright, that’s about enough of a fictional universe full of beautiful people in colorful costumes saving the world from ridiculously evil people in equally silly get-ups. It’s time to check out Fire Emblem Heroes! The latest update isn’t exactly a big one, but whatever. Four new heroes get character-specific weapon skills that they can unlock, and the pieces have been put in place for the upcoming Lost Lore events. Those kick off tomorrow, and see players sending various heroes to scout other worlds in order to find lore for the Heroes Saga. Okay, enjoy the other dimension, Dorcas. Don’t forget to write!

Pocket Build, $0.99 Okay, technically most of what is in this update was actually in the previous update that hit the week before, but I won’t tell if you don’t, friends. Anyway, there are big things on the horizon for Pocket Build. This update does not have those big things, but it has preludes to the big things, and that’s rather nifty all on its own. A few things have been improved in the early beta for First Person mode. The lights have also been improved, and performance on the whole should be better as of this version. A screenshot mode has been added in camera settings that will clear the UI for a nice clean shot, and a search has been added to the start-up menu. Not bad.

Rise of Kingdoms, Free Okay, the title is just back to Rise of Kingdoms again, apparently. This update is packed with stuff, and I’m not going to go through it all. The short version? A new Sunset Canyon arena with an event that may well be finished by now, or at least close to it. The Osiris League has officially kicked off, complete with a league betting system. Let’s see… the Qixi Festival events should be off and running now, letting you pick up a special holiday theme and a new city decoration. Finally, the second season of The Lost Kingdom seems to be on the way, sporting some improvements over the first. I guess we’ll see. If you want all the details, do check out the patch notes on your own.

Gardenscapes, Free And now it’s time for our regular check-up on Austin, the finest video game butler that ever butled. This update adds a new character named Mary in an event that should be kicking off soon-ish. If you can collect all of the decorations, you’ll get a special summer mansion makeover. The Gardener contest continues, so go and make your finest summer garden to see how you fare. There’s yet another new character here named Matthias, who is a tourist that is apparently hiding a secret of some kind. What could it be? Will we ever know? I mean, that would be cool, but I’m also prepared for the game to drop the mystery like a hot potato, only picking it up years later in an effort to generate some buzz. Like a third Summers brother, if you will.

Toy Blast, Free Well, it’s the puzzle game update for the week. No, I’m not counting Gardenscapes, they actually put a little effort in. So yes, it is Toy Blast. As usual, we’ve got 50 new levels, and a little story behind their existence that may or may not be in the actual game itself. The idea here is that the toys are visiting a fashion boutique? It promises stylish clothing and fancy jewelry. I don’t know. Like, I appreciate the effort. I doubt anyone other than me is actually reading any of these notes. But it’s so weird that this stuff usually has nothing to do with the game.

Six Ages: Ride Like the Wind, $9.99 Six Ages is such a great game. I don’t think it’s anywhere near as popular or well-known as its predecessor, King of Dragon Pass, but it’s just as awesome. Here’s the first update in a little while for the game, and it adds a few things and fixes a lot of others. First, there’s a new interactive scene to enjoy. The emissary flow has been reworked, and character-specific advice is now given more reliably. Are you still using an iPhone 4S? Well, this update makes it work better on that device. For people in 2019, you can enjoy a better experience on your iPad Pro. Healers are now less likely to be war leaders, which probably makes sense. Lots of bugs were fixed up, some calculations have been adjusted, and some minimal keyboard support has been added. Well, that all looks good enough for a coveted UMMSotW award, if you ask me.

That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
