A little while ago, Square Enix announced a new Dragon Quest mobile game that promised to deliver a new experience. I speculated whether it would be a premium port or even the 2D portion of the new mainline Dragon Quest game. I was wrong and it is actually a game that feels a bit too inspired by Pokemon GO in the form of Dragon Quest Walk. The screenshots so far look very good though and Dragon Quest monster design is pretty timeless. Thankfully it doesn’t seem to have lost all charm like some other games in this transition. Watch the trailer below:
As of what’s been revealed, battles look like classic Dragon Quest turn based experiences. They will likely have music from classic games as well. There will also be quests from NPCs which you can complete by walking to real places including some that need you to go to landmarks from the game. Watch the full reveal stream for it showcasing gameplay below:
As with most things Dragon Quest, don’t get excited for a localisation until it is absolutely confirmed. That brand just hasn’t had a huge success in the West and the newest attempt will be through Nintendo marketing and publishing Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age Definitive Edition for Switch later this year. Dragon Quest Walk is set to release this year in Japan for iOS and Android devices. Do you want to experience Dragon Quest like Pokemon GO?
