As with most remakes or reimaginings of old games, the aim is not only to appeal to older fans but also bring new generations of players into games. When Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap was announced for Switch and other consoles, I was intrigued because the remake looked great. It is a remake of the 1989 game Wonder Boy III: The Dragon’s Trap for the Master System. Today, Playdigious, Lizardcube, and Dotemu have announced a mobile port and you can watch the trailer for it below:
This port is fully premium and will have no in app purchases. The complete game will be playable on iOS and Android and isn’t some spinoff release as is the case with certain console releases that get mobile adaptations. Playdigious also confirmed that it has full MFi controller support on iOS and Bluetooth support on Android. Dotemu even had a great showcase of the retro mode in this remake. Check it out below:
If you’re interested, you can pre-register on Google Play here for a 30% discount when it goes live. There are no pre-order details for iOS as of this writing. Have you played it before or are you getting Wonder Boy for the first time when it debuts on iOS and Android on May 30th?
