Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. With all kinds of wild entertainment events going on across all sorts of media, it’s only natural a bit of that is spilling into the updates we’re getting. Avengers Endgame is of course the chief candidate here, particularly when considering the large number of Marvel apps available. But that’s not all, friends. I’ve found plenty of other interesting games to check out as you kick off your week. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper or by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!
Rules of Survival, Free We haven’t looked in on Rules of Survival in a while, but it has indeed been updating all along. The latest version adds a few little features but nothing Earth-shattering. A zipline has been added to the Ghillie Island map to make it easier to get around. Gold Mode+ has seen some changes, with a new Demolition Expert mode coming into play this week. Throw in a few balance adjustments and a handful of bug fixes, and that’s pretty much the story.
Subway Surfers, Free Avengers this, Game of Thrones that. No one is asking the real question on everyone’s minds: what are the kids from Subway Surfers up to this week? The answer is that they are in Thailand. In Bangkok, to be precise. Floating markets, golden statues, and more present treats for your eyes as you scramble to collect sea shells to unlock prizes. Recruit the newest skater Noon, who is a Thai boxer, and see if you can pull off a nice showing in the weekly Top Run race. Where will these kids get to next?
MARVEL Strike Force: Squad RPG, Free Anyway, time to talk Marvel. The biggest movie event… well, it’s looking like maybe the biggest movie event ever has just finished its record-breaking first weekend, so of course every Marvel app is all about that Avengers Endgame. Wait a second, though. Strike Force is apparently doing a special event based around Shuri? That’s… that’s awesome but I am a bit surprised, to say the least. Anyway, you’ll need to suit up your Spider-Verse team to really have a go at this event. This new version also brings two new playable characters. One is Falcon, and the other is a secret. Seriously. Can’t tell you. This update also includes a ton of bug fixes and some other little tweaks.
Toon Blast, Free Hello Toon Blast, my old friend. We need a puzzle game for the round-up again. You seem like a good fit for this week so here we are, hat in hand, asking you to join in. So what do you have for me? 50 new levels? Some absurd new story about a heist where the thieves don’t actually take any of the money? And everyone is animals? Yeah, okay. That’s good enough to include in the weekly updates, I suppose. Get your shoes on and let’s go, then.
Fortnite, Free Fortnite is not a Marvel game, but it certainly doesn’t mind dabbling in Marvel events. When Infinity War came out, there was a really cool and terribly-balanced event that added the freaking Infinity Gauntlet to the game, and now that the follow-up Endgame is out, we’ve got another wild event. Play as Thanos or the Chitauri to try to bring balance to the universe, or wield special Endgame items like Cap’s shield, Thor’s Stormbreaker, Iron Man’s repulsors, and Hawkeye’s bow. Are these items properly balanced? Eh, who cares. Go out and have fun, friends.
Marvel Contest of Champions, Free Interestingly enough, it seems that Contest of Champions is also foregoing making a direct Avengers Endgame event. But it is doing a thematically-related event called Avengers Forever, where you have to power up the original six team members to take on an alternate universe Thanos who is running wild. This update also adds new solo objectives, a Champions index to make it easier to view all of the available Champions participating in The Contest, and a bunch of bug fixes and character balance adjustments. Well, whatever it takes.
Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector, Free Meanwhile, in Neko Atsume‘s Avengers Endgame special event… what? Oh, no Avengers event in this one? Yeah, I guess that would make sense. It would be really weird to have cute cat versions of all of the Avengers who called themselves the Cat-vengers, and when they assemble it’s always under a heated table or something. Super… super-weird, right? Ha ha. Um, so this update really just adds some new cats and toys, and I doubt any of them are Cat-venger related. Very sorry about that. Now we’ll never know what happened to Captain Americat, Iron Meow, and Hork-Eye. Such is life.
MARVEL Future Fight, Free Okay, here we go. Now we have an actual, real, totally-legit Avengers Endgame update. Marvel Future Fight never misses a chance to add new premium costumes to the game, and this is a bonanza. New Endgame uniforms for Black Widow, Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, War Machine, Nebula, Rocket Raccoon, Ant-Man, Thanos, and Ronin are included, along with special Team Suits for all the people that should have them. There’s a new Legendary Battle chapter focused on Endgame, a new World Event, a new growth element, and to top off the whole sundae, Thanos Tier-3 is now included in the game. I imagine he can snap his fingers with an even greater force than usual.
Minecraft, $6.99 With all of the improvements Minecraft has been making, it’s been a while since the rather rudimentary villages got any serious love. That changes with this update, which revamps the residential areas with new villages across different biomes, each containing job sites, buildings, special designs, and lots of fun construction opportunities. The trading system has also been refined to make it a little more interesting. But watch out, because with these new villages comes a new threat: Pillagers. They’ve set up outposts all around the world, and they aren’t afraid to bring the attack to you. This is a neat update and I am therefore awarding it with the coveted UMMSotW award for this week.
Choice of Games, Free Let’s finish things up today with a look at the latest adventure to hit the Choice of Games hub app. Fog of War: The Battle for Cerberus is written by Bennett R. Coles, and it’s a sprawling tale of intergalactic war where you play a fresh-faced commander. A rebellion is rising up, causing no end of trouble to your Astral Corps. If that’s not enough, a deadly plague is sweeping across the planet. You’re the only one that can sort this whole mess out, but what is the best path forward? That’s your choice. As usual, there’s plenty of romance options and intriguing moral quandaries to deal with. You’ll have to fight your hardest if you want to save the largest amount of people, but do you even know what you should be fighting for? Mm, interesting stuff. As usual, you can pick it up as IAP within the Choice of Games app, so do give it a look if it sounds neat to you.
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
