Best iPhone Game Updates: ‘Mortal Kombat’, ‘Fortnite’, ‘Super Cat Tales 2’, ‘Clash Royale’, and More

TouchArcade Rating:

Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. It’s the Easter holiday today, so you’ll have to excuse if the jokes aren’t quite as polished as usual. My writing team has the day off, you see. But I’ve still pulled together a list of notable updates for you to enjoy as you munch down on chocolate or ham or chocolate ham. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper or by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!

Dan The Man, Free Let’s lead things off with an update for Dan the Man. It’s a rather small update, as they tend to be for this game of late, but hey, an update is an update. This one celebrates the season by adding a spring fighter in the form of a vengeful rabbit. Probably not any of those famous rabbits, but I nevertheless encourage you to show caution. Rabbits are cunning and dangerous animals. Also, bug fixes.

Mortal Kombat, Free Hey, it’s the four-year anniversary of the game formerly known as Mortal Kombat X. It looks like it will just be carrying forward with the arrival of the new game, so that’s cool. I feel like Injustice kind of blew it by bringing out the second game, after all. Anyway, there are lots of free and limited-time goodies going on to celebrate the anniversary, and if you pick up Mortal Kombat 11 on console or PC and link it to the mobile game, you’ll get a special pack with a guaranteed MK11 character. There are a bunch of free souls being distributed to celebrate the game’s launch as well, so make sure to log in and claim them.

Clash Royale, Free One of the most popular games on the App Store for years, Clash Royale shows few signs of letting go of its userbase anytime soon. With nifty updates like this one, it’s easy to see why players stick around. Trophy Road gives you a new way to play one-on-one, offering up gems, cards, emotes, and more as prizes. New game modes include Dragon Hunt, Elixir Capture, and Mega Deck, and you can use the new Earthquake card to shake things up for your opponent. Cool stuff, I suppose.

Fortnite, Free Fortnite icon guy is looking pretty different at the moment. Is he going for a heel turn or something? Oh well, none of my business. What is my business is the update the game received last week. The Week 8 Battle Pass outfit, Ruin, has been revealed. Check off those weekly challenges if you want to earn it. The Baller controls in the HUD Layout Tool have been adjusted to make them work better for more players, and hey, there’s even a special Easter item to be found on the island for a brief period of time. It’s the Egg Launcher, and I have faith that you’ll be able to figure out what it does on your own.

PUBG MOBILE, Free PUBG Mobile doesn’t update quite as frequently as its competitors, but when it does, it really makes it count. There’s frankly too much here for me to list, but the highlights include extensive changes to Survive Till Dawn, a replacement for Event mode called EvoGround, a new mode for EvoGround called Darkest Night, a new Companion System, and a whole whack of other new additions, fixes, changes, and improvements to help make the game even more enjoyable. In other words, if you’re already enjoying the game, there’s more here to dig into. And that’s what updates are really all about, aren’t they?

Matchington Mansion, Free Well, here’s my pick for the free-to-play match-3 update this week. It’s Matchington Mansion, the Homescapes-style game that has been so popular recently. This update brings in a new event centered around pets, and naturally adds a whole bunch of new levels to play. To be specific, there are more than 50 new levels, and a whole new room in the form of the Downtown Park and Library. Fix them up and decorate them as you match the day away. Or whatever. It’s hard to come up with anything interesting to say about updates like these, but I know some people like them so… here we are.

Super Cat Tales 2, Free If you’ve never played the Super Cat Tales games, I encourage you to correct that at your nearest convenience. The second game in the series now offers even more to love, as this update adds a fair bit of content to it. The second story chapter has been added to the game, and that means you can look forward to new worlds, new cats, new levels, and even new villages to play around with. There are some new items in the shop as well. A great update for a great game equals one coveted UMMSotW award. Enjoy!

SEGA Heroes: RPG Match 3 Games, Free SEGA Heroes keeps on chugging along merrily, adding new characters and events to try to find the right balance of what works. The latest update added Alicia from Valkyria Chronicles, and she’s just the first of what is likely to be a batch of characters from the series. There have also been more events lately, offering up prizes like gold and skill materials along with the occasional chance at some very rare characters. That seems to be it for now, but this game does get updated fairly often so I’m sure more new stuff is just around the corner.

Rise of Kingdoms, Free This update to the popular Rise of Kingdoms appears to be sowing the seeds for an upcoming major expansion. Called The Lost Kingdom, it apparently sees you exploring a whole new world that was until now lost to the sands of time. What that translates into in-game is beyond my guess, but I’d expect it’s just more content in the vein of what is already there. This update also adds an achievement system, an immigration system to move to new kingdoms, and some adjustments to the troop movement system. There are a few other bits and bobs, but that’s the largest part of it.

Disney Magic Kingdoms, Free Okay, it’s still just spring, but it feels like summer is right around the corner in my neck of the woods. And that makes it a good time for Disney Magic Kingdoms to introduce the characters and world of Moana to the kingdom. Moana, Maui, Hei Hei, Pua, Gramma Tala, Chief Tui, and Sina all join the game, along with four new attractions, four new concessions, and four new decorations for your park. That all sounds pretty good to me.

That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
