Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. This week features a lot of games I used to play a lot getting some interesting new updates. We’ve got cool new additions to a variety of games, and a couple of slightly odd crossovers. Well, I’ll let you all have a look and decide what you think. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper or by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!
Phantasy Star Classics, Free What can I say? Some weeks I like to get my favorite update of the week out of the way quickly, and this is one of them. The Phantasy Star 2 app got a sweet update this week that added Phantasy Star 3 and Phantasy Star 4, available to play for free with ad support or in special upgraded ad-free versions if you buy IAPs. I think it was my first year at TouchArcade where I openly wished I could play Phantasy Star 4, one of the best RPGs of the 16-bit era, on my iPhone, and now here we are. Enjoy that coveted UMMSotW award, SEGA.
Siralim 2 (Monster Taming RPG), $4.99 Okay yes, Siralim 3 is out there and it’s getting regular updates, but don’t forget good ol’ Siralim 2. It got an update in the last week that has some nice stuff in it. There’s now support for MFi gamepads, improved touch controls, support for Turbo Mode in boss battles, support for iPhone X family screen sizes, and more. Yes, even bug fixes and optimizations! It’s a good excuse to fire up Siralim 2 again when you’re taking breaks from Siralim 3.
MARVEL Future Fight, Free The latest Marvel movie is going to be out very soon, and that naturally means that Marvel’s various mobile games are getting ready. In the case of Future Fight, that means three brand-new characters. The new additions include Nick Fury, who somehow wasn’t in the game already, Minn-Erva, because Kree names are often cute like that, and Korath, because sometimes they’re not. Naturally, they’re all sporting costumes inspired by the movie alongside their comic book looks. Captain Marvel also has a new uniform available to make her look a little more Brie-esque. Finally, there’s a new legendary battle available based on the movie.
SEGA Heroes: Match 3 RPG Game, Free It’s time for the next SEGA franchise to join the SEGA Heroes, and it’s… The House of the Dead? Sure, why not? So far, we’ve just got Dr. Roy Curien, but I’m sure we’ll soon be able to make a certain someone suffer like G did. You can also find Dr. Curien as an opponent in Survival Mode. Also new in this update are Playgrounds being made a part of the regular rotation. You can pick up some gold and, perhaps more importantly, some valuable advice in each new Playground. Toss in some bug fixes and that’s the update.
Homescapes, Free What the heck? Austin got kicked out of the icon? This is an outrage! Get Austin’s agent on the phone, pronto! Ugh. Well, in addition to removing its star from the icon in favor of a boring house, this update also adds soap and toasters to the match-3 puzzles because those two things tend to go great together. The storyline gets a little progress as the Relaxation Room Saga comes to an end. What will they cook up next? Maybe you’ll find out by opening the boathouse and repairing the yacht inside of it. Or maybe that has nothing to do with anything. Only one way to find out, friends!
PUBG MOBILE, Free PUBG Mobile had been so long without an update that I was starting to get worried it was being left behind. Well, now we have a big chunky update that says HEY MAN, I AM NOT DEAD AND WHY ARE YOU SHOVELING DIRT ON ME, NO YOU DO NOT GET MY STEREO GEEZ. So what’s new? Well, see, it actually ties into that whole dead thing, since there’s a big Resident Evil 2 event happening. It features zombies, bosses, outfits, and more from Capcom’s amazing survival horror title. There’s also some new weather, an anniversary event, and a handful of helpful improvements to keep things running smoothly.
Toy Blast, Free Thought I’d, you know, change things up a bit and feature Toy Blast instead of Toon Blast this week. But it’s a free-to-play matching puzzle game, so you know the score. You get a bunch of new levels, 50 in this case, and some theme that may or may not actually be reflected in the game. Apparently the toys are visiting Candy Land? Watch out for the King of Candy Land, I hear he’s litigious. Anyway, that’s about the size of it. Yeesh, even if you love playing these games, 50 levels is going to take a few weeks. Slow down, Peak Games. The competition is only doing 20 per update.
Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, Free Oh, hello there, Mr. Game That Snuffed Out My Beloved Avengers Academy. How are you doing? Are you… are you well? No sniffles or anything? I’d hate for you to get sick. Really. GIVE ME BACK MY WASP AND LOKI STORIES, YOU B-… never mind, I’m calm. Don’t worry about me. I don’t know, I guess in this update you can keep on feeding your Magical Creatures after they’ve reached max level in order to get more rewards or something. And there are some new faces in the Magical Creatures Reserve. You know what creatures were magical, Jam City? Baby Cthulhu and Boss Wasprus. I’ll never forget them.
MARVEL Strike Force: Squad RPG, Free Okay, I’m fine. Don’t worry. I mean, look, another Marvel game, right? And another Captain Marvel event. There are two new playable characters in this update, Captain Marvel and Minn-Erva. There are also ability updates for Ronan and all of the Kree minions, so everyone from the movie gets a turn. Magneto got some adjustments to make him a bit more powerful, as he should be, and the camera got a little work done on it as well. If you want to do well in the Minn-Erva event, you’ll have to get a tough Cosmic team together, so get on it.
FINAL FANTASY Record Keeper, Free With RE2 in PUBG Mobile and Kingdom Hearts in FF Record Keeper, who even needs a console? Am I right? Of course not. But whatever, Record Keeper is still a pretty neat game and Kingdom Hearts crossovers do not grow on trees thanks to Disney owning the characters. This isn’t the first time Record Keeper has crossed over with Sora and the gang, but in addition to the characters who appeared before, you can also get Axel and Roxas. Dungeons from the three main Kingdom Hearts games are featured, and if you think it’s hard to explain the story as it is, wait until you see this game try to do it in abridged form. New Kingdom Hearts 3 outfits for Sora and Rikku round out this update.
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
