The Valentine’s Day Event in ‘Candy Crush Friends Saga’ is a Good Way to Get Ahead in King’s Newest Match Three

TouchArcade Rating:

King has released so many different Sagas that it’s a bit hard to keep track of them all these days, with the latest addition to the Candy Crush universe being Candy Crush Friends Saga (Free). If you haven’t tried it yet, it’s basically the same match three foundation found in every other Candy Crush game with a system of characters that have abilities you unlock which more or less serve as a slightly different flavor of doling out power-ups. It doesn’t exactly reinvent the wheel, but the interesting thing is as King releases more of these Candy Crush games the need to actually pay for anything in them significantly decreases.

For instance, when the only Candy Crush game on the App Store was the (now) old school Candy Crush Saga (Free), you’d blow through your lives and then just need to wait. Well, now, between the four Candy Crush games you can effectively play them as if they were premium games with no timers because when you run out of lives in one you just rotate to the next, and by the time you go through all four you’ll be full again in the Candy Crush you started with. It’s a … strange situation that King has created for themselves.

Anyway, if you haven’t gotten into Candy Crush Friends yet but generally enjoy these games, the event they’re running which coincides with Valentine’s Day is a great time to start. If you play through all the challenges you’ll get a costume for your character (Think skins in a MOBA, or similar), but the interesting part is this two-hour “instant charge" pre-game booster item you unlock which allows you to unlock the powers of the various in-game characters much quicker than you would otherwise. It seems like a big part of your progress in Friends is unlocking these powers, so, it’s a pretty decent boost you can get for zero dollars.

Is this event going to bring any Candy Crush haters into the fold? Of course not, but, maybe Candy Crush Friends wasn’t on your radar or perhaps your mom plays these games like crazy and you can tell her about the Nutcracker King of Hearts costume she might not be able to live without. Who knows! Either way, the event starts today and runs through February 21st, with the fun stuff happening in level 25 onward- So you basically need to play the tutorial area first before the Valentine’s Day stuff turns on.
