Following its announcement and early version launch on Google Play this past June, today EA Mobile has announced that their upcoming competitive real-time strategy game Command & Conquer: Rivals will be launching worldwide on December 4th. Obviously trying to take on the massively popular PvP strategy genre that has exploded in the mobile free to play space, as well as the eSports boom that has been growing over the past few years, Command & Conquer: Rivals is “competitive to its very core" according to a quote from their accompanying press release. EA plans on the game becoming “the next official EA competitive gaming franchise to roll out a complete competitive program, including community tournaments and a championship pro scene." They are NOT playing around, ya’ll. They also tout the game’s feature of being able to control all of your units at all times during play, rather than the “drop-and-watch" mechanics of other games, which is an obvious dig at genre staples like Clash of Clans and Game of War.
As stated previously, Command & Conquer: Rivals soft-launched on Android back in June, and EA says they’ve been thrilled with the player response since then and have shaped the game based on tons of player feedback. That sounds like some PR fluff, but personally I’ve only heard good things about the game from those who have played it and aren’t just dismissing it immediately for being a free to play mobile game using an iconic franchise’s name. I never got into any of the competitive PvP mobile games so I’m not sure if Command & Conquer: Rivals will be for me, but if EA really is as serious as they seem about it then I could see it actually becoming the next big sensation. You still can pre-register for the game on the official website and possibly get a chance to play the early alpha version ahead of launch as well as score a bundle of goodies when the game does come out, otherwise look for the official worldwide launch of Command & Conquer: Rivals December 4th.
