Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. Is it time for Hallowe’en yet? Just about! Which means we have a few straggler Hallowe’en updates in this week’s article, along with a bevy of other non-spooky updates. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper or by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s dig in!
Bacon – The Game, Free You know, I want to believe that there is a finite amount of objects you can throw bacon into or on top of, but I have a feeling Bacon – The Game is going to be proving me wrong for a while to come. So if you finished putting bacon on all the previous things that you could put bacon on, listen up: there are 30 more things to put bacon on now. Some of these are downright diabolical, so I hope you’ve spent a lot of your precious time practicing your bacon lobs.
Jetpack Joyride, Free Okay, it’s getting a bit late in the game for Hallowe’en updates, but I guess it’s still okay. Now, if this update hit on Thursday, we’d have an issue. Anyway, if you wanted a Hallowe’en event in Jetpack Joyride, here you go. Zombies? Werewolves? Bone Dragons? A new background? Yes, we’ve got all those things here. Collect pumpkins, unlock various rewards, and deck Barry Steakfries out in the finest Grim Reaper attire. At this point, it’s basically all cosmetics, but if you’re still playing Jetpack Joyride in 2018, you’ll probably be happy to see anything new.
The Quest, $7.99 The Quest has a new expansion, as it is wont to. It’s called Caeworn Castle, and it sees you venturing into a spooky castle to try to sort out just what the hecky-darn is going on in there. People go in, but they don’t come out, you see. They get in a scrap with ghosts or demons and, boom, now they are added to the pile of ghosts. There are brothers who are fighting with each other, it’s a whole Myst thing or something. I don’t know. Just… figure it out. The update here just facilitates the addition of the expansion. You’ll have to go and buy it separately to activate it in here.
Marvel Contest of Champions, Free The 1980s meet the 1990s in 2018 with the latest new character in Marvel Contest of Champions. Have you ever wondered what would happen if you paired a symbiote with Howard the Duck? No? Hunh. Well, I want you to imagine that you wondered that, and actually care about the answer. Because the answer is Venom the Duck, and he is pretty magnificent. He’s probably really tough to unlock, because that’s how it goes in these sorts of games, but seriously. It’s a Venom-enhanced version of Howard the Duck. If that’s not worth a coveted UMMSotW award, I don’t know what is.
MARVEL Future Fight, Free Ahh, remember when Marvel was trying to replace the X-Men with the Inhumans because of movie nonsense, and actually thought that would work? Hold on to that, because I doubt many people will have a memory of that happening before long. Anyway, X-Men! A few pretty big X-Men characters are joining the Future Fight. The Ragin’ Cajun Gambit, everyone’s favorite fuzzy elf Nightcrawler, and the bane of mutants everywhere, the “most popular in mango" Sentinel. On top of that, there are some new costumes for existing mutants. Magneto and Emma Frost get their Marvel NOW! duds, and Angel and X-23 get their X-Force uniforms. Ha, Inhumans.
Lineage 2: Revolution, Free Lineage 2. Some people like it. Some people hate it. Some people like the PC one and don’t like the mobile one. Maybe the opposite type of people also exist? I don’t know. But I do know that there is an update for the mobile version, and it has orcs. Yes, the big thing here is that you can now play as an orc. Apparently you start at level 180? I have no idea how this game works. This update also allows you to do a second class transfer, increases the level cap to 320 (!), and merges some existing servers while introducing new ones.
Stardew Valley, $4.99 Okay, so the iOS version of Stardew Valley is a bit of a fixer-upper. The good news is, the developer is probably going to do all the necessary fixing-up it takes to make this all it can be. And it’s also seemingly making enough money to justify more fixing-up. So here are some fix-ups. You can now play music or podcasts in the background while you play, and the tap and hold movement option now works for letting you move off the screen. It’s easier to get on and off of your horse. Oh, and there’s vibration support while you’re fishing. That’s useful. Also some bug fixes, for those who like to have bugs fixed. Weird people that you are.
Clash of Clans, Free Maybe you forgot about Clash of Clans. Sure, it is not the fashionable game to copy anymore the way that it was a couple of years back, but it’s still making money hand over fist. And that means that it’s still getting updates to keep its huge playerbase happy. Probably happy, anyway. Maybe lightly frustrated, too. So here’s the deal: Clan War Leagues. It’s a new competitive ladder for Clan Wars where you can get lots of goodies if you’re good enough. This update also has 25 new single player maps, and a new trap to play with. Likely some bug fixes and balance adjustments on top of all that. That should keep the clans clashing for a while longer, if nothing else.
Fortnite, Free Okay, let’s bring things to a close with a couple more Hallowe’en updates. First up is Fortnite, which dubs its event Fortnitemares 2018. Probably some spooky stuff going on in there, I don’t know. Go check it out if you’re into that sort of thing. I guess there are cube monsters or something, and if you kill them you can pick up some nice loot. You also get access to some special limited time Hallowe’eny weapons including the Pumpkin Launcher, the Fiend Hunter Crossbow, and the Six Shooter. Wait, what’s so Hallowe’enish about a six shooter? Hm. We’ll have to research this further. I’ll put my robot assistant on it.
PUBG MOBILE, Free Not to be left behind by its competitor, PUBG Mobile also has a Hallowe’en update for people to take part in. Pick up pumpkins and candies, turn enemies into scarecrows using Hellfire, enjoy the scary face that appears when a grenade blows up, and try to gather Trick Tickets for special rewards. Aside from the Hallowe’en stuff, we’ve also got a new night mode and some Night Vision Goggles to go with it. There’s a new weapon, the QU DMR, and a new vehicle, the Rony pick-up Truck. Both of those can be found in Sanhok. There are lots of other little bits and bobs, but I’ll let you check those out on your own. I’m going to go buy some discounted candy and eat myself into a coma.
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
