Best iPhone Game Updates: ‘Fortnite’, ‘Pokemon Go’, ‘Respawnables’, ‘Hearthstone’, and More

TouchArcade Rating:

Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. I sure hope you all like Hallowe’en updates, because we have got a whole bag of those for you this week. I mean, there are one or two non-Hallowe’en things, but this is the App Store in late October, so you get what you get, friends. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper or by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s dig in!

Respawnables - Special Forces, Free So yeah, let’s get started with these Hallowe’en updates, then. Respawnables always has something new going on, and that means it rarely misses a beat when it’s holiday time. But check out this update, because there’s a whole new game mode in here called Hordes. Zombies will spawn in the maps, and you’ll have to use all of the weapons at your disposal to keep them at bay. Fail, and it’s your character’s brains on the line. And just between you and me, I don’t think these Respawnables characters can afford to lose even a bite of their gray matter.

MARVEL Avengers Academy, Free Daredevil Season 3 event! Hallowe’en event! Daredevil Season 3 event! Hallowe’en event! Wait… why not both? Yes, the latest event to hit the Avengers Academy campus celebrates both Daredevil and the spooky side of things, with costumes galore and new characters White Tiger, Madame Masque, and Bullseye up for grabs along with plenty of returning characters. Do missions, collect pumpkins, use the pumpkins to fight and receive another kind of pumpkin, then trade those pumpkins for a random chance at shards to unlock and upgrade heroes. This is the way things go these days.

Pokémon GO, Free The big news for Pokemon Go is that Pokemon from the Sinnoh region have started to appear in the game. For those not up on their regions, these are the Pokemon from the first Nintendo DS generation of games, Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. Eventually, you’ll be able to catch them all, but for now there are only certain ones out there to be found. Which ones? Look, I’m not a Pokemon trainer. That’s up to you to sort out. Or just look it up online or something, I guess. This is the modern age, after all. Wait, maybe you did look it up online, and it brought you here? If so, I deeply apologize. Please understand.

The Simsâ„¢ FreePlay, Free The Sims FreePlay seems to be doing pretty well for itself these days, and while there’s no spooky Hallowe’en-ness pervading this update, it is nicely in tune with the Autumn season. Whether it’s an augmented reality feature, new items for your yard, fall fashions for your favorite virtual friends and family, or even some silly Hallowe’en quests, there’s lots to see, do, and collect in this latest version. Wow, that reads like I copied it off the back of a box or something. I should get a job writing box descriptions. Do games still come in boxes? Do digital games have digital boxes I could write? The answer to these mysteries and more, next time!

Hearthstone, Free Even Hearthstone can’t resist the siren’s call of a Hallowe’en event. Sure, they’re calling it Hallow’s End, but we know what it is. The Headless Horseman makes his comeback with special decorations, emotes, and season-appropriate Tavern Brawls. Besides that, there are new player ranks, and a bunch of new deals in an all-new Welcome Bundle. Even if you picked up a Welcome Bundle in the past, you can still grab this new one. Finally, there are also some new Daily Quests that will give you gold in exchange for jumping through certain hoops just so each day. It’s easy money, so you can’t complain too much!

Bitcoin Billionaire, Free Noodlecake’s idle tapper is still going strong, even if the trend that it’s based on has stopped being part of the daily news. Naturally, it has a Hallowe’en thing going on in its latest update, too. There are eleven new spooky items to unlock, as well as a brand new pet. This new version also fixes up some bugs, improves iPhone X screen support, cuts out banner ads altogether, and lowered the frequency of other ads. The developers also removed negative cards from the random card events, making this a pretty player-friendly update all-around. I think I’ll give this our coveted UMMSotW award for this week.

Disney Heroes: Battle Mode, Free Hmmm. They’re trying to frame this update like it’s a Hallowe’en update, but I’m not sure that I’m buying that based on the contents. A few new characters are making the scene, and although they’re baddies from the bottoms of their souls, I’m not sure that necessarily qualifies this as a Hallowe’en thing. Anyway, Hades from Hercules, Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty, and Scar from The Lion King are all now available in Disney Heroes. Wait, the name of the game is Disney Heroes. What the heck! This kind of going off-brand is a bit… scary? Oh, I get it! You sly dogs!

Fortnite, Free Hey, it’s time for another Fortnite update. This game sure keeps busy, doesn’t it? So what can we look forward to this time? Surprisingly, not Hallowe’en! Or at least, that’s not what it talks about in the update notes. Instead, we get to hear about things like the new Quadcrasher vehicle, or some new weapons and items like the Quad Launcher and the Chiller trap. New control options? You betcha. And of course, some stability improvements and and bug fixes. Nothing scary about any of that stuff.

Gardenscapes, Free I’m starting to think that in spite of my considerable campaigning, Austin the Butler is not going to be added to the roster of the latest Smash Bros game. Sakurai, you coward! Oh well. Things are how they are, and I’m sure history will validate me in the long run. In the meantime, why not enjoy yet another Hallowe’en event? This one takes you into the garden with some creepy new decorations and a special new mansion design. Once you’re settled with that, you can check out the new Wonderland Park, which involves white rabbits and other such drug-induced hallucinations. You see all the stuff Austin has to deal with? He would easily be the champion of Smash!

Rules of Survival, Free Nom nom nom, this bandage on my hand is so delicious, I can’t stop chewing on it. What a strange icon this game has. Oh well, its update frequency makes it an easy inclusion in these articles, so I can’t stay mad at it for long. In this version, there’s a new steady rifle called the DSR-1. It has a low firing rate, but makes up for it with its range. Besides that, this update also reduces the number of vehicles in the Gold Mode, adjusted a bit of the UI, and fixed a whole pile of bugs. So yes, it’s mostly about the new gun, but what more do you want them to do in a single week?

That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
