If you’re a football (see soccer) fan and like to play mobile games, you know that there’s been a dearth of good football games ever since FIFA decided to shift away from being a game about playing football and became a game about collecting things. PES 2017 took advantage of that gap in the market and got plenty of fans when it came out last year. This year’s PES 2018 (Free) (which has replaced the 2017 app) wants to continue focusing on the football playing part of the sport while also taking us back to earlier footballing times. Specifically, the game features David Beckham (both in-game and as the app icon) as well as legends like Romario, Maradona, Ian Rush, Steven Gerrard, and Michael Owen (I know some will debate whether the last two should be called legends, but I support Liverpool, so there’s that).
The new update introduces a Friend feature that lets you more easily play against friends, always the most entertaining part of sport games like this one. PES 2018 also updates player stats and team rosters, improves the controls—which were already pretty good—sharpens the visuals, and adjusts match balance. These are the major enhancements, but I’m sure there’s a ton of smaller ones as well. Are you a PES fan, or are you still on the FIFA side of the field?
