Back in late July we checked out the trailer for an upcoming game called Rainbow Tail, which looked to take the match-3 goodness of Candy Crush and mix it together with the monster collecting and battling of the Pokemon series. It sounded good on paper and the trailer looked nice, and now today, after being soft-launched in select Asian territories, Rainbow Tail finally has a release date out West, and it’ll be launching next week on September 26th. Here is that trailer again in case you missed it the first time.
While there have been rumblings of concern that Rainbow Tail’s creatures known as Gemlings might look a little TOO close to the Pokemon aesthetic, it certainly seems like a very high quality effort in terms of overall presentation. Plus for me personally I’m always much more excited over a matching game if there’s some form of RPG-like progression and story to follow. Rainbow Tail promises an extensive story and plenty of side missions and quests to play through on your own, as well as the ability to play against others in the Rockobo Arena if you choose. What is the point of collecting cute little creatures if you can’t force them into direct competition with others? Be on the lookout for Rainbow Tail when it launches next Tuesday.
