Google Play has launched an interesting new section on their Android marketplace, the Android Excellence section. What this section is designed to do is to showcase the best apps and games not just by quality, but with other factors, like design, technical performance, localization, and device optimization. These features will reset quarterly, but will serve as a prominent spot for featured apps and games. The games list contains mostly recent releases from the past year or so, with a couple of exceptions. It also has Golf Clash (Free), which, if you haven’t played it, is fascinating. It’s literally the Clash Royale (Free) formula applied to a golf game. It’s nutty.
These are part of the larger, curated, editor’s choice sections, which contain lists of games. Both the App Store and Google Play seem to be making bigger steps towards curation and editorial content on their stores. Considering how hard it is to find good content (though you should support sites like TouchArcade that do that work!), these are good steps to helping users out.
