Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. It’s another somewhat slow week, but given all the new games we all have to play at the moment, maybe that’s for the best. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper Social (Free), the watchlist in the TouchArcade App (Free), or by participating in the TouchArcade forums, but this weekly summary is here to fill in the things you might have missed. Let’s dig in!
MARVEL Future Fight, Free Iron Fist’s live-action debut seems to be going over about as well as most things involving Iron Fist, but that isn’t stopping Marvel from rolling out the usual promotional tie-ins. Since we’re about a year away from any Avenging, it’s going to be all about the Defenders for the next little while. This update adds two new characters connected to the team, Hellcat and the Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider. They’re joined by Kid Kaiju from Monsters Unleashed, and a bevy of Netflix-related costumes for Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Punisher, and others. Yep, now you can swap Danny Rand’s iconic green-and-yellows for a look more in line with Floyd from True Romance.
Minion Rush: Running game, Free I mean, I have to respect this a little. While every other frequently-updated free-to-play game is draped in greens and shamrocks, Minion Rush has decided to do an event based on theme parks. A new special mission called Trip to the Theme Park takes place in Super Silly Fun Land, and you need to collect balloons, fireworks, and cotton candy for reasons. There’s a new carnival barker costume to unlock, and a new airplane mini-game. With a new movie on the way soon, I’m sure there are even more big things coming to this game soon. Heaven help us all.
Rayman Adventures, Free And hey, while we’re talking about the Minions, we’ve also got an update for Rayman Adventures. Let’s be honest, the Rabbids are basically proto-Minions, and like most prototypes are far cooler than what came after. Wait, this update is Renaissance Fair-flavored? Ugh, I take that back. Rayman and the Rabbids are now officially not cool. Anyway, limited time event, collect hidden goblets, unlock a Rayphael costume, and meet the new Incrediball family, the Goodknights. This is too much punnery even for me, so I’m going to hop over to the next update now.
Disney Crossy Road, Free I can’t imagine living in a house where all of the furniture is sentient. Like, how do you even get some alone time? Is Beast’s toilet alive? Oops, I’m overthinking Disney movies again. Sorry about that. Beauty and the Beast is in theaters now, and that means Beauty and the Beast is also in Disney Crossy Road now. A whole new level built around the film is here, and there are several new figures to collect that are drawn from the cast of characters. Belle, Beast, Lumiere, Mrs. Potts, and more are waiting to be unlocked. Is this the first time an Angela Lansbury character has been playable in a video game? Glad I lived to see this day, friends.
Clash Royale, Free Supercell has got a money-maker that just won’t quit, and its name is Clash Royale. This update adds some new leagues, nine of them to be exact, each offering up some monthly rewards. Also added in this version are clan battles, which allow you to battle alongside one of your clanmates. Of course, there are also some new cards, and a new arena unlocks at 3800 trophies, which seems like a lot. But what do I know? When it comes to Clash Royale, precious little, my friends, precious little. Next!
Respawnables - Special Forces, Free Well, you know Respawnables. It’s not going to miss any opportunity to run an event, and that means it is St. Patrick’s Day time. What’s really impressive is that they’re running this event for three weeks, which is at best 19.5 days longer than most things involving St. Patrick’s Day. Looks like there are some appropriately-themed costumes including a leprechaun suit and Celtic warrior duds, so whatever your brand, you should be able to find something worth wearing. Here’s hoping it doesn’t take a real pot of gold to unlock it all but, well, you know Respawnables.
The Sandbox Evolution, Free Haha, zombies. Okay, why not. There’s already just about everything else in this game. The Zombie Apocalypse brings five new zombie-themed elements to the game, including a regular old zombie, a stalker zombie, a bloated zombie, a zombie virus, a zombie antidote, and of course, Rob Zombie. Ha, no, just kidding on that last one. We’ve had quite enough of Dragula in video games for one lifetime, I think. There are four new weapons for Arnold, including a hand gun, shotgun, antidote gun, and rocket launcher. You can also use lots of decorative elements and elements that allow you to team up with the army. This isn’t the most sizzling of weeks, I’ll grant, but I’d say this game has earned a coveted Update Mondays Most Spider-Mans of the Week award if only for its continuous efforts.
Oh...Sir! The Insult Simulator, $1.99 Hey, it’s a new playable character for Oh…Sir!, arguably the finest insult-combat simulator released on the App Store. The man joining the roster is none other than… H.P. Lovecraft? Uh. Sure, why not? The developers also mention in the update notes that they are working on a follow-up to this game called Oh… Sir! The Hollywood Roast, and that many of the suggestions and requests they’ve received will be incorporated in that game instead. Yay, celebrity squabbling. Just the kind of content I’ve been looking for!
Heroes of Steel RPG Elite, $3.99 Whoa Nelly, Heroes of Steel has a new crafting system. Visit any smith to craft a ton of different items, allowing for potentially thousands of new pieces of magical gear. It costs Bloodstones to craft, though, so you won’t be doing it willy-nilly. But seriously, the enchantments you’re allowed to put into gear using this crafting system should allow you to set up your characters just the way you want them. This new version also buffs up the legendary items for each hero, presumably to make sure they keep their worth in light of this new crafting business.
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
