Gamebooks, who doesn’t love ’em? They combine the fun of RPGs with the intellectual rigor of reading. But what about making your own? Well, that’s what MetaArcade tries to do. It’s an app that will serve as a way to play a variety of interactive, gamebook-style, fiction adventures. Tunnels and Trolls serves as the backbone of the gamebook engine, and a couple of adventures in the Flying Buffalo series are part of the app. A number of premade adventures will be available, but MetaArcade wants this to be about creating and sharing your own gamebooks.
The PC-based editor is actually pretty easy to use, where you can write your own flavor text, use a vareity of pre-included art create choices, saving rolls, and dialogue. It’s pretty easy to use, and there’s a handy overview of where all your different instances are, so that you can analyze and arrange your map of rooms to your own potential. I’m really excited to play around with this. I have some weird ideas for stories I’d love to play around with in the gamebook format at some point. Keep an eye out for this one, and sign up for early access on the game’s website.
