Hello everyone, and welcome to the week before Christmas! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. It’s to be expected, but wow, there are a lot of Christmas updates in this batch. Some great games got some terrific updates, so I think we’ve got a little something for every good girl and boy this week. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper Social (Free), the watchlist in the TouchArcade App (Free), or by participating in the TouchArcade forums, but this weekly summary is here to fill in the things you might have missed. Let’s dig in!
Siralim 2 (Monster Taming RPG), $4.99 Back so soon, Siralim 2? Following the previous week’s expansion update, this new version simply makes some tweaks and adjustments. The chance of getting Fleshwarper Coins has been doubled, some new UI features like a 3x zoom have been added, and a few efficiency improvements have been made. Naturally, there are some bug fixes in here, too. We’ll see if these hardworking devs squeak out another update this year, but even if they don’t, Siralim 2 has sure ended the year on a high note.
Nekosan, Free Well hello, Nekosan. This tough but enjoyable platformer needs very little added to it or adjusted, in my opinion. But it’s always nice to get more levels, and that’s just what this update brings to the game. All you have to do is get to them, but that’s no problem for you, is it? I have faith in you. Don’t let me down. I mean it.
AG Drive, $2.99 AG Drive got a big update this week. There are now time trials and leaderboards in the game, two great additions for any racing game worth its salt. Those who own iPad Pro devices will find the game now snugly fits the dimensions of that beast, and just about everyone can enjoy the new graphical enhancements. There have also been some adjustments made to the difficulty curve to make the game a little friendlier in the early races. That seems like a pretty good idea!
Disney Crossy Road, Free Christmas updates, Christmas updates as far as the eye can see. There’s plenty of holiday cheer to be had in Disney Crossy Road this year as many of the figures have been done up in festive attire. This update also adds six new secret figures, and adds a few other seasonal elements. As usual, you’ll have to play thoroughly to find out what exactly has been added. I am just a helpful sign post.
Junk Jack, $4.99 Junk Jack doesn’t usually miss any beats when it comes to holiday updates, so it’s no surprise we’ve got a nice new version full of festive cheer. The world and some enemies are draped in signs of the season, and since you’ve been good little children all year, there are also some presents packed with treasures for you to find. But perhaps the present you’re looking for can’t be bought in stores. In that case, you might be happy to hear that tools and weapons now have a greater range, something many players have been requesting. There are a few other tweaks and fixes, but those are the high points.
Vainglory, Free Big Vainglory updates usually mean new characters, and that’s just the case here. Our new character is Idris, a warrior who wields a deadly chakram. If you don’t know what that is, remember the show Xena, Warrior Princess? It’s the round killing thing she used. And it is indeed quite a round killing thing in Vainglory. Also in this update is a new mystery chest that contains every hero and skin in the game, plus a very small chance of winning one million opals. The odds are better for heroes and skins, as you’ve got a 1-in-3 chance of pulling one of those. The other 2/3 pulls are probably things like old Kenny G records and Star Trek: The Next Generation Pogs, but hey, that’s gambling for you.
PewDiePie's Tuber Simulator, Free The Clown Prince of YouTube’s latest game got a good old holiday update itself. New holiday items, a holiday Puggle skin, a festive Sponsor Eagle, and more await you. Besides the Christmas stuff, there are some other tweaks including awards for subs milestones, new perks in the Knowledge Tree, and variable pricing for Puggle. This update contains so many things I haven’t got a hot clue about, but if it makes people happy, it’s all good.
Turbo Dismount®, Free Yes, even Turbo Dismount is getting in on this seasonal stuff. But for this game, it’s Chill-out Season that it’s celebrating. Huh, that sounds like a fantastic holiday tradition, and I would like to try it one day. All seasonal heads are now in the character screen, there’s a new lazy couch called Pivot, and a new hat named The Quencher. That all sounds very chill, yes. Your papers are in order, Turbo Dismount, you may go about your business.
Sentinels of the Multiverse, $6.99 The post-release support on this game has been consistent and fantastic. I’m always seeing good updates pop up on a regular basis, and the owners of the game seem to be quite satisfied with their purchases. This latest update continues that trend, adding a new expansion called Vengeance to the game. Season Pass 2 owners can just scoop it up for free, but others will have to pay a $4.99 IAP. For that, you get five new heroes, two new environments, and a new way to play the game against villain teams. There are a few other tweaks and adjustments, but I’ll let you take a look at that yourselves if you’re interested. In recognition of this game’s many valuable updates, I’m happy to award it this week’s coveted Update Mondays Most Spider-Mans of the Week prize.
har•mo•ny 3, $2.99 There’s not much to say about this update other than the fact that the game now has 25 new, challenging holiday levels to play. So if you’re looking for something to zen out on while the family argues over the turkey and/or ham, you could do a lot worse than spending a little time working on achieving some harmony.
Demon's Rise 2: Lords of Chaos, $7.99 Let me tell who doesn’t care about human holidays: the Snake People. One of their number has joined the playable roster of Demon’s Rise 2 as of this update. The Snakeman Rogue uses all the things snakes are known for: poison, speed, and throwing daggers. Yikes. Sounds like a tough customer. This update also makes a few UI improvements and adds iCloud save synchronization to the game. Hooray! Oh, and there are some balance tweaks and bug fixes, too.
Cubed Rally World - GameClub, Free This update adds a few new vehicles to the game, along with a new IAP to remove the ads, if that’s your preference. The new vehicles are the Muscle Car, the Trophy Truck, and the Hang Glider. It sounds like the set-up for one of those great bar jokes, but I’ve got nothing. Sorry. See if you can come up with a good joke and leave it in the comments below. Your comedy will surely be appreciated by your peers.
Crossy Road, Free Wow, Crossy Road is two years old now. That means a cool anniversary update with a bunch of new mascots. The theme this time around seems to be baby animals, with a baby chicken, baby bunny, kitten, and more. In all, there are eleven new mascots to collect. None of them are secret, so go on and get them! Baby animals. Seriously. Do it. There’s a baby hippo! I’m not even kidding here. Baby. Hippo.
Ski Safari 2, $0.99 Yeah, it’s a holiday update, but it makes a lot of sense for a game like Ski Safari 2. I mean, it already has a winter theme and everything. You get a Santa-fied icon, some yeti costumes for the main characters, and some new icy versions of the skis, snowboard, and snowmachine. Wait, is the yeti riding in the back of Santa’s sleigh, wearing an elf costume? What the googley-moogley is going on here? Sigh. Well, that’s Ski Safari for you.
Super Stickman Golf 3, Free Is it Christmas time in Super Stickman Golf 3? Yes, you know it is Christmas time in Super Stickman Golf 3. That means new holiday courses and some special holiday character styles. Aside from the seasonal stuff, there are also some new course-based achievements and some new turn-based multiplayer modes. Golfing in the middle of winter. What a bunch of weirdos.
Block Fortress, $1.99 So yes, Christmas theme. But also, there’s a new underwater map to play around with. Not enough? Well, how about some new weapons? Does a grenade launcher, flame thrower, and devastator grab you? Still no sale, huh? Okay, here we go. New grappling hook equipment. Yes? New nerve gas launcher turret! Enhanced graphics! Improved multiplayer! Bug fixes and optimizations! That last one probably didn’t need an exclamation point! Neither did that one! I can’t stop!
Asphalt 8: Airborne, Free Here’s a good-sized update for Gameloft’s flagship racing game. This version of the game includes McLaren cars for the first time ever in the Asphalt series. That’s not all, though. Eight new cars are on the way, including the Aston Martin Vulcan, the Mosler Land Shark, and more. There’s a Christmas Cup going on, and if you participate every day, you’ll get a free BMW M2. The bad news is that if you’re only finding out about this now, it’s too late to get the car, but you can get some other goodies. Naturally, some new events are coming where you can win a Chevy Impala and an Arash AF10.
Ire - Blood Memory, Free Ire – Blood Memory gets a new expansion in this update called Lost Corridor. Good news! I found it. Guess what I found with it? Yes, a new weapons category! Haven’t you always wanted to bash the enemies with a hammer? You don’t have to answer. I know you dream of being Thor. This update also adds real-time PVP and a holiday event called Adjudicator Klaus. He knows if you’ve been bad or good, so cave his skull in with a hammer, for goodness sake!
Only One, Free Whoa, a new update for Only One? Really? Awesome. This special holiday update adds a new class, the dwarf, and some new Christmas-themed duds for the hero and a few of the enemies. The movement controls have gotten some improvements, and some balance adjustments have been made. This Christmas… can you be… the Only One? Someone hit the play button on my boombox. I’ve got Queen queued up, it’ll be great.
Doomsday Clicker, Free Alright, I’m sticking a pin in this week’s article here. What better place to do that than with a Doomsday Clicker update? Like many of the other updates this week, this one is Christmas as all heck. There is a Christmas Mega Monster, some Christmas Room Incidents, a Christmas-themed Doomsday, which is as exquisite as it sounds, and a special Christmas remix of the background music. Oh, and 10 new roomies, too. What’s not to love?
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week and a Merry Christmas, friends!
