AP Thomson and Diego Garcia – whose art you know from Sunburn ($2.99) and Peter Panic (Free) – have teamed up to make a new game called Swap Sword, hitting iOS on December 1st. This is a match-3 roguelike game, where your character is a tile on the board. You take a turn either by moving your character (and attacking an enemy) or matching 3 tiles in a row. The tiles include enemies, which can be eliminated by matching 3 of them, or attacking them with your character. Keys have to be matched to unlock the exit that becomes a tile on the board that you need to get to. And maybe don’t blow it up with the dynamite tiles that appear. Dawdle too long on the board, and an unbeatable enemy will appear.
I’ve played too many match-3 games in my day, but Swap Sword comes off as an incredibly genius idea after playing it for a short bit. It’s a difficult game, but one that clearly offers different strategy. Oh, and it’s perfect for one-handed play on mobile. This has all the potential to be a massive timesink, and you’ll want to keep an eye out for it on December 1st for $2.99.
