Motorola Moto Z is the First Non-Google Phone to Get Daydream VR Support

Motorola has announced that their Moto Z and Moto Z Force phones, along with getting updated to Android 7.0 Nougat this week, has added in support for Google’s Daydream VR protocol. Right now, there’s only one Daydream headset, the Daydream View, but this means that more phones support Google’s VR platform beyond just the Pixel phone by Google.

This is notable because Daydream’s viability is going to rely on compatible hardware being available for Google’s virtual reality platform. While many phones may not get the Nougat update necessary to be Daydream-certified, the fact that some phones are getting this certification well after their release bodes well for developers and users of Daydream. Now we just need more Daydream VR headsets to roll out. With Samsung’s reputation having taken a massive hit due to making products with spontaneous combustion, and Apple yet to enter the virtual reality market, the mobile VR marketplace is wide open right now for Google.
