Even though there is some serious competition from the Battlefield and Titanfall series this year, November will always be the Call of Duty month, and the one-two punch of both Modern and Infinite Warfare (certainly a lot of conflict, by any means) has proved to be a commercial hit, even if critics haven’t been as favourable to Activision’s flagship first person shooter series this time around. Thankfully, November isn’t solely an exciting time for console gamers – as well as the soft launch release of card game spin-off Call of Duty: Siege last month, the publishing behemoth has reduced every Call of Duty title to $1.99 in an App Store wide sale. The titles featured in this promotion are as follows:
- Call of Duty: Strike Team ($6.99)
- Call of Duty: Zombies ($4.99)
- Call of Duty: Zombies HD ($4.99)
- Call of Duty Black Ops: Zombies ($6.99)
While some of these Call of Duty games may feel a little dated in comparison to recent App Store releases – the original Call of Duty: Zombies ($4.99) game released all the way back in the early days of iOS gaming in 2009 – they are all a lot of fun to play, and relatively faithful to their console counterparts. Call of Duty: Strike Team ($6.99) received our coveted Game of the Week award for its ambitious amalgamation of tactical and first person shooter action, and also received a very glowing review to boot. The two Zombies games are also worth a look, and while most gamers will likely know what to expect from this side mode by now, they’re surprisingly solid ports and important pieces of App Store history. I can fondly remember playing the World at War version after its surprise release at the end of 2009, and while such a feat may not be particularly noteworthy in 2016, effectively seeing a PS3 game on a smaller screen running so well was mind-blowing, and their continued support over a whole host of iOS updates is impressive – hopefully we see more from the series on mobile in the near future.
