Magic: The Gathering – Puzzle Quest (Free) is probably my favorite of the Puzzle Quest games primarily because I love CCGs and because it lets me mess around with Magic cards. And the way the Match-3 mechanics work in this game actually makes sense in the context of Magic. Today, the game added the Eldritch Moon set, which concludes the Shadow over Innistrad story with the reveal of the Eldrazi titan, Emrakul. The update adds 65 new cards, and all the cards are Uncommon or better – no Commons here. This set is also introducing two new mechanics to the game, Meld and Emerge. With Meld, once two card siblings hit the battlefield, they transform into another, more powerful form. When you play another one of those siblings, the transformed form of the card is reinforced.
Emerge is a new keyword that allows a card to gain mana equal to the listed number next to it each time a creature you control dies. Both of these new mechanics come straight from Magic, so it’s fun to see one mechanic play out in different games. If you want to check out the new cards, you can find them in Eldritch Moon boosters but also in Fat Packs, which get you an extra guaranteed Eldritch Moon card, and Big Boxes, which get you an extra booster pack with a guaranteed Rare or better Eldritch Moon card. The update is live, so go check it out.
