Hit 1981 arcade game Defender is the grandaddy of horizontal scrolling shooters, and was one of my favorites when I was a kid. It sounds rather quaint nowadays, but there was something so freeing about being able to switch directions and chase down enemies in the “open world" levels, and the Asteroids-like inertial movement only added to the fun. Ah yes, Defender, how I love thee. Well, I get the impression that indie developer Jeff Taniguchi was a bit of a Defender-head himself, as his forthcoming iOS game Bomboras Forever has a lot in common with that classic. Check out the trailer.
According to the developer, Bomboras Forever is “about a squadron of pilots journeying to a distant star in hopes of finding some way of stopping an alien invasion. Along the way, you have the opportunity to level up with upgrades and weapons that are all stackable and change the gameplay. It’s a roguelike and a challenging game. Depending on the path you choose you may encounter other pilots who will assist you, or who need rescuing, environmental hazards, other undisclosed obstacles, and a boss or two." Sounds awesome! It also looks awesome, as I love the colorful stylized graphics in the game. Bomboras Forever is all set to launch on July 9th and we’ll give you the heads up when it’s out, in the meantime head over to the forum thread to discuss this one.
