Kiloo Games has made its name (and fortune) on the very successful Subway Surfers (Free), and has recently been leveraging that fame and fortune to expand to other genres. So, Kiloo gave us Spellbinders (Free) and Tesla Tubes (Free), but its next project, Dawnbringer, is definitely much more ambitious than all the previous ones. Dawnbringer, which is the fruit of a Kiloo-Copenhagen Creators collaboration, is an open world RPG where the hero is fighting to save the world of Mourngard, and in the process he might have to challenge his reckless brother in order to save the world (another humble RPG hero). The game features hack’n’slash swipe combat, a campaign that should take hours to complete, and the ability to craft and enchant powerful gear.
As you can see from the trailer, the game looks good, and I especially like the huge enemies you have to take down. The combat style is very reminiscent of Infinity Blade ($5.99), which isn’t necessarily a bad thing (though it’s not my favorite combat mechanic). It’s hard, of course, to judge an open-world RPG from a trailer and a few screenshots, so we’ll have to get our hands on it to see whether there are enough quests to make the world worth exploring and whether the combat and story will be entertaining enough to make the journey worth it. The game is currently in closed beta (you can apply for it here), and it will release for iOS and Android on June 16th.
