The developer of Starseed: Origin ($2.99), Shane McCafferty, is set to release a new game, and while fans of metal-inspired shmups might find this is neither shmuppy nor metal, there’s something brutal still about AlphaPit. This is a word game, a sequel to Word Forward [appprice url="asdf"], where you must clear a 5×5 grid of all the letter tiles, spelling out at least 3-letter words with each move. The levels are fixed, so you have to figure out the best tactic to clear the square as best as possible.
Now, there’s an interesting system where you can change the letters going forward or backward in the alphabet. But, each tile starts at a different ‘height’ so they can only go so far forward or backward. So, it’s not just about looking at the tiles on the board and finding the right combo, it’s also thinking about the transformations. You have undos, shuffles, and bombs that can help you out, but the board must be approached intelligently so that you don’t run into any issues. AlphaPit releases on June 9th as a free download, with video ads to get more of the helper powerups if you run out. Check out the thread in the upcoming games forum for more on this one.
