Never Alone is a 2014 puzzle platformer from Upper One Games that originally launched on Windows PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 before seeing ports for Wii U, PlayStation 3, Mac, and Linux in 2015. Now we can add two more platforms to the mix as Upper One has announced a special version of Never Alone for iOS and Android called Never Alone: Ki Edition. For the most part, Ki Edition will be the same game as other versions of Never Alone, but with a new touch control system, a new hint system, and graphics that have been optimized for mobile devices. Check out the trailer.
Upon release, Never Alone was praised for its authentic depiction of Alaskan indigenous folklore and was even developed in partnership with the Cook Inlet Tribal Council which works with indigenous groups living in Alaska’s urban areas and is actually the owner of Upper One Games. Never Alone was also praised for its wonderful visuals, but its actual puzzle platforming gameplay received a more mixed reception. I haven’t played Never Alone myself yet, so like so many other games that I’ve missed on console and desktop over the years, I’m really glad to have a chance to experience what it’s like on mobile. Never Alone: Ki Edition hits iOS and Android simultaneously on June 23rd.
