I’ve talked repeatedly about how much I enjoy the eeriness of Rusty Lake’s Cube Escape series, and the just-released Cube Escape: Theater (Free) continues along the same vein, which is nothing but good news to me. Cube Escape: Theater is the eighth in the Cube Escape series and continues from where Cube Escape Birthday (Free) left off. The opening scene of the trailer with the red curtains reminded me a lot of the famous giant scene in David Lynch’s Twin Peaks (one of my all-time favorite shows), although the tone of this trailer is less threatening and more inquisitive – though no less peculiar and with an uncanny tone running through.
With Simogo not having given us any of its weirdness in a long time now, I’m glad we still have developers like Rusty Lake that enjoy going the creepy-unsettling route in their horror rather than the jump-scare one. If you enjoy point and click adventure games mixed with puzzles and drenched in a creepy – yet provoking – atmosphere, you might want to take a look at Cube Escape: Theater, out now for free.
