After the deluge of Warhammer games on iOS during the last few years, we seem to have entered a time of relative drought (emphasis on relative). The upcoming Battlefleet Gothic: Leviathan looks to once more bring the Warhammer 40,000 universe to mobile but this time in the form of a turn-based strategy game based on the tabletop miniatures game, Battlefleet Gothic. The mobile and tablet versions of the game attempt to faithfully recreate the tabletop game. The story’s based on the Shield of Baal campaign, and you’ll be able to experience that conflict playing as Imperial Navy, Blood Angels Space Marines, or Tyranid Hive fleets, with more playable races coming soon.
The game will have a Campaign mode with numerous missions (and plans to continue adding more), and the ability to upgrade your numerous ships and progress your officers by earning new skills, ships, and weapons, all of which sounds like great fun to me. BGL will also offer online and local multiplayer modes, which I hope will let me blast people to smithereens. The game reminds me a lot of Leviathan Warships, a very promising – and fun game – that never took off because of some weird design decisions (like splitting the player community across 3,4 servers). The game is planned to come out late Spring 2016, so hopefully not too long to wait now.
