‘Kingdom Hearts Unchained Chi’ Hits iOS and Android this Thursday

Way back in 2002, the worlds of Disney and Square Enix collided in the original Kingdom Hearts for Playstation 2. The series has spawned tons of games since then and gone on to become one of the more beloved video game franchises around. Just about a year ago, series director Tetsuya Nomura hinted that a mobile Kingdom Hearts game was in the works, and at E3 the following June that game was officially announced as Kingdom Hearts Unchained Chi, which was based on the 2013 browser game Kingdom Hearts Chi. Still following along? Kingdom Hearts is pretty notorious for having confusing naming conventions. Anyway, in early September of last year Kingdom Hearts Unchained Chi launched in the Japanese App Store, and our own Japanese resident Shaun Musgrave gave us some first impressions on what to expect. Fast forward to today and Square Enix has announced on their blog that Kingdom Hearts Unchained Chi is heading to North American markets this Thursday, April 7th.

Along with the announcement of a North American release date the blog post also offers up an interesting Q&A with Tetsuya Nomura which sheds some light on to what went into the creation of the mobile title and what’s in store for some of the upcoming Kingdom Hearts stuff on consoles. This part in particular stood out to me: “As mentioned in the beginning, this is the story of the start of KINGDOM HEARTS. In other words, there is no need for any prior knowledge of the series. I would love for people who have not yet played KINGDOM HEARTS to take this opportunity to casually jump right in with a blank slate." As someone who has never played a Kingdom Hearts game, this sounds like it’s a good spot to jump into the universe. Long-time fans shouldn’t fear though, as Nomura promises there will be plenty for existing fans to chew on as well. Look for Kingdom Hearts Unchained Chi later this week!
