Remember how last week Blizzard briefly advertised An Evil Exchange as that week’s Tavern Brawl only for us to find out that we were actually getting a different Hearthstone (Free) Brawl? Well, this week we actually are getting An Evil Exchange where Kel’Thuzad and Rafaam are competing to see who is the superior endboss. You, of course, have to take a side and fight for evil supremacy. This is a brand new Brawl with pre-constructed decks that has some very interesting ideas. Kel’Thuzad has 30 health and 30 armor while Rafaam has 60 health, so expect matches to take a bit longer than usual. Kel’Thuzad’s Hero Power appropriately brings a random minion back from the dead while Rafaam’s is definitely a more interesting one.

Rafaam’s Hero Power is, in a way, the Staff of Origination from the League of Explorers. When you first start, his Hero Power is simply add a random minion that costs 5 or less to your hand. However, after you play the two spells that upgrade it, the Hero Power gives you a random legendary card that costs 4 less, which is pretty crazy. As you can imagine, getting a random, cheaper legendary in your hand for only two mana is pretty crazy and can lead to all kinds of shenanigans (I got Elise Starseeker and all kinds of other crazy Legendaries). Rafaam’s Hero Power introduces plenty of RNG, of course, but that’s partly what makes the Brawl fun for me.
Kel’Thuzad’s deck is much stronger, but if you manage to quickly upgrade Rafaam’s Hero Power, then you could easily build a very strong board. So, make sure you upgrade that Hero Power as quickly as possible if you’re playing as Rafaam, and make sure you try and kill Rafaam as early as possible if you are playing as Kel’Thuzad because once those legendaries start hitting the board, all bets are off. An Evil Exchange is live in NA, so enjoy your Brawl!
