Strategy games often try to convey a massive sense of scope, having you control entire nations instead of individual troops or units. Heck they even coined a phrase for them: Grand Strategy Wargames. But what if the scope was even grander than that, like say entire galaxies battling each other? That’s the idea behind Devouring Stars, a real-time strategy game from developer Nerial that’s heading to iOS soon. In it, you play as massive space entities with the ability to devour entire star fields to create various types of protection. It sounds crazy! Check out the trailer.
According to a post in our forums, Nerial is trying to expand on the traditional RTS genre, especially in the way units are created. “There’s no tech tree or building facilities in Devouring Stars: your entities will have to merge in order to create advanced units with special abilities. Depending on the set of entities you start the game with, you will be able to go for different strategies that will evolve during the game." There will be 4 types of entities in the game–earth, air, fire and water–but by merging entities you’ll be able to create up to 15 different types. These “advanced" merged entities have different abilities like freezing enemies, controlling them, long-range attacking and more, which should give players plenty of options for strategizing.
Devouring Stars is already available on Steam and has been since July. The game was originally designed with touchscreen in mind, so the port should feel right at home on mobile. The iOS version should arrive sometime in mid-December, and you can follow along with its progress and find out more information by checking out the thread in our forums.
