Sometimes, with a unique hook and an amusing trailer, even an endless runner can catch my attention nowadays. Such is the case with Classy Quest (Free), a new action runner from Raredrop Games that launched yesterday afternoon. The idea is pretty simple: touch the left side of the screen to jump, and the right side to shoot a projectile, like Monster Dash (Free) and the like. The twist comes from the many, many different classes you can transform into by collecting the large green gems during play.
Besides killing enemies, avoiding death pits, and lasting as long as possible, you’ll also collect purple gems while you play which go towards unlocking new classes. There are 3 classes unlocked from the start, and every time you pick up a big green gem it’ll randomly change you into one of your unlocked classes. So besides high-scoring there’s a nice meta-goal of unlocking classes to add some variety to the game. The various classes don’t play terribly different from each other in my experience so far, but they are a lot of fun and do have unique attacks. Check out the extremely humorous trailer for Classy Quest to see it in motion.
Classy Quest is totally free to download and play, with opt-in ads available to earn extra gems. It’s not the most amazing runner in the world, and it’s definitely got a few rough edges, but it’s certainly a lot of fun. My main criticism is that I wish the difficulty ramped up quicker, as runs tend to last a bit too long for my taste. I LOVE the unlockable classes though, and that’s what will keep me coming back for more. It’s a really good foundation to build on, and it seems that people in our forums are really getting a kick out of it. Like I said, it’s free, so give it a look and let us know what you think.
