DotEmu Will Bring The Classic Adventure ‘Sanitarium’ To iOS This Halloween

You just have to love DotEmu. Not only do they do fine work from a technical point of view, carefully recreating classics from a variety of platforms in loving detail, but they’ve also got exquisite taste when it comes to the games they choose to give their treatment to. They’ve done an excellent job with many of SNK’s NeoGeo games, and have brought vintage delights like The Last Express ($4.99), Ys Chronicles 1 ($4.99), and Little Big Adventure ($4.99) to mobile. Their current slate seemed a bit full already, with Ys Chronicles 2, Titan Quest, and Pang Adventures all on the way, but we can now add one more title to that list: DreamForge Intertainment’s creepy psychological horror adventure, Sanitarium.

sanitarium

Originally released in 1998 for PC, Sanitarium tells the story of a man who gets into a car accident and wakes up in a sanitarium with no idea who he is or how he got there. As he tries to find answers, things get increasingly weird. It was a game that was reasonably well-received at the time of its release, and its reputation has only improved over time. I remember playing it not long after it came out and finding it really creepy. I haven’t touched it since that initial playthrough, so I’m looking forward to trying it again.

The release date on iOS will be October 29th, just in time for Halloween. It’s a suitably spooky game to play to get yourself in the mood for handing out candy to teenagers in cheap costumes, friends. It’s great to see another classic adventure game make a comeback on a platform that suits the genre so well. You can, of course, look forward to a review of Sanitarium here at TouchArcade once it’s released.
