Ask yourself, and be honest: do you have enough gorgeous-looking on-rails space shooters in your life? The answer is no, you do not. Dark Star is exactly what I’ve just described, and color me excited: it looks to be fast and action-packed, and full of shooting stuff in space. That seems good to me! The game is content complete at the moment, and the developers at That Wonderful Lemon are looking for beta testers for Dark Star, so feel free to sign up here if you’re interested in testing and providing feedback. This game looks cool, and interestingly, it seems to eschew Star Fox as an influence thanks to one of the developers growing up with the Genesis. It’s certainly something I can empathize with – I was the same way, and missed out on some of the SNES greats until they came out on GBA. I did have a Nintendo 64, though, and enjoyed Star Fox 64, because I’m not a monster. Still, a shooter without Star Fox elements? Interesting, for sure.
