League of Legends is basically the biggest game in the world right now. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s a free to play Mac/PC MOBA which was originally released in 2009, but has been constantly supported and updated since. Most recently, the whole UI was redone, and before that, the main map of the game, Summoner’s Rift was totally reworked as well. It’s an incredible game, and one that I’ve spent a silly amount of my life playing with friends. Playing ARAMs with first blood shots is basically the default activity for my local crew. First blood shots, they’re a thing, I assure you.
Anyway, while I could talk about League of Legends quite literally all day long, the whole reason for this post is to raise awareness of a neat little utility that just hit the App Store called Scout Ahead (Free). It uses the new API’s Riot has been working on recently to let third party developers hook into the game to allow you to quickly grab stats on your opponents. The dream here, is that you’d be able to grab the app, link it up with your League account, and then be able to see at a glance who on the other team is probably going to kick the crap out of you based on their previous play statistics.
And, because it’s 2015, and this is the App Store in a post-Apple Watch world, the app also has an Apple Watch component. I’m not too sure how useful the Apple Watch side of things is going to actually be… But, I guess it’s cool that it’s there if you want to fiddle with it. Anyway, for whatever reason, there really aren’t that many great League of Legends apps on the App Store, so it’s nice to see a developer actually put some effort into making an awesome one. Now, how about an update to LoL Connect ?
