It’s been almost a year now since Bandai Namco soft-launched a free to play version of the updated take on their classic Pac-Man franchise Pac-Man Championship Edition DX ($2.99), but at long last the game has finally gone worldwide as of earlier today. What took so long? Well, the version that soft-launched last year was built with all the typical free to play trappings, like in-game currencies and timers, and was met with plenty of criticism from fans, especially those who have enjoyed the various premium Pac-Man Championship games on consoles and even right here on iOS over the years.
So Bandai Namco took that to heart and, as we learned at their Global Gamers Day back in April, they’ve reworked the entire game as a buy-once, premium product. So, as of this newest release of Pac-Man Championship Edition DX, you can slap your five bucks down and get your Pac-Man on to your heart’s content. I’m just diving into the new release myself, but the old free to play version was quite awesome gameplay- and control-wise, so I expect this to be similar. Check it out, especially if you’re not a big fan of free to play and want to support these types of premium games, and don’t forget to leave your thoughts in the game’s forum thread as well.

5/5 from me. best game this year so far.
Awesome game definitely 5 stars. I didn't see the reviewer list any negatives unless I'm missing something?
Great review Andrew
I agree with the reviewer. The story bits are a little stupid, but I guess who really cares... It's great on-the-go title, perfect for mobile... and addictively fun.
Stupid... but funny !
The only problem, really easy :/
For the first 10h, I never get stuck or need leveling. I'm against Tarantulla (spider) and I only see that my first attempt fail just because a bad combination of technique.
Yeah the story is kind of inane buT—maybe because everything else is so solid—its grown on me.
Really enjoying this! I'm so addicted to it that I haven't played anything else for days.
$2.99 + IAP? Ugh. Glad I got it for free last week... And deleted it shortly after. Yawn.
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why free to play exists.
To be fair, the game is $2.99 with IAP, gems and the reviewer is talking about being sort of surprised there is no paywall? Why would you have to worry about a paywall on a premium game?
It's slowly wormed it's way into my heart - there's a huge amount of depth and strategy in it and it'll be one of my goty I suspect
This game is phenomenal and I have been playing every chance I get! With that said, for anyone who doesn't like the main character just read his parts in your mind as if you were Ash from Evil Dead… Works for me!
Good game but I can't hit the squirrel but 10-15% of the time. Will wait in a patch to fix the hit ratio
Thanks for the review, I'll give this one another whirl. I downloaded when it came out and the first 20 minutes didn't jump out to me but it sounds like there's more to enjoy the further in you get.
It is a great game. I got it when it was for free, but it is definitely worth its price. I have seen 90 % of the game by now. No paywall, a good need for strategy. I enjoy(ed) it a lot. Better than many match threes I tried.
I won't spoil you, wait until you have to go against paladin with Guardian sword.
Squirrels have 50% dodge skill. There are other enemies down the line that have the same ability. You get powerful enough to 1 shot them later on or you can use the targeting tile for a guaranteed hit on them.
How do I summon the secret boss, I think if I remember it's the end boss but way harder. There used to be a wiki with all the bosses but from the looks of it, it has shut down
