Super Evil Megacorp’s hit mobile MOBA Vainglory (Free) has been steadily adding content in terms of new heroes, UI modifications and countless balance changes. However, one area that players have been clamoring for are hero skins in the same vein as nearly every other MOBA. With today’s game update, those prayers have finally been answered.
As one might expect, Vainglory’s skin system is purely superficial in nature, modifying only a hero’s appearance. However, the way skins can be earned is something relatively unique to the genre. At the conclusion of matches, players can randomly earn collectible cards. Cards feature a variety of elements from within the game and come in four different rarity tiers: common, rare, epic and legendary. Each skin can be unlocked by collecting and ‘weaving’ a specific combination of cards. Tier 1 skins can also be purchased with ICE (the game’s premium currency), but subsequent Tier 2 and Tier 3 skins (which have yet to be released) can only be unlocked with card combos.
It sounds like a pretty cool system because not only does it offer a lot more opportunity to players in terms of being able to unlock skins without IAP but it also encourages players to simply play the game more, which is always important for matchmaking in a mobile game. Also, each of the skins simply look pretty awesome and do a good job of actual changing up the visual appeal of each character rather than it being a subtle palette change.
Currently, Tier 1 skins are available for Adagio, Glaive, Koshka, Petal, Ringo and SAW, with more to come in subsequent updates. In addition, Tier 2 and Tier 3 skins will also eventually make their debut, along with a Card Store that will assumedly allow players to purchase cards of various rarities with Glory and ICE.

The comment of this review made my bust out laughing. Very creative!
I meant the title.
Lost me at "hello". Lol, was interested at first, but just not up to another Freemium with timers and IAPs...these games require so much time to devote to them and...unless you shell out lots of IAP, you find yourself behind the eight ball 3 months down the road. Good luck for those that are interested, though.
Timers again, no thanks. Had enough of those. :-(
Who's the champ that down-voted Larry's comment against timers? Timers are stupid, okay, Mr. Dorky Down-Vote?
I've tried tons of these games. So far I like this one better. I'm expecting to plateau at some point and give up but so far I like the whole fleet thing.
Anything that says "just like Clash of Clans ...." no matter where in an article. Makes me switch off. Then hop in my DeLorean to take try yet again to change history
The idea of "building up and alliances" the game is far from clash of clans. It punishes you harder, and unlike clash of clans, you can have real wars, real conflicts, and if someone pissed you off you can slap them till they jump to another sector. Be wary of coalitions, :P
I kind of with Starbase Orion had combat similar to this. Maybe not this but something more managed.
what is the big deal about timers? Play a different game until the timer expires. LOL
I shouldn't be forced to do so. A good game by design is one that push you toward playing the game not playing something else. If I want to play it now, I should be able to. Anyway freemium lovers can never relate to freemium haters, so why even try. The only free game I play (more like abuse; I play it alooooot) is Hearthstone, it never felt freemium to me.
You're not forced. You chose it.
LOL. Think about it, okay? Timers are not enjoyable. They are so dumb, and adds nothing but a downgrade to any game.
Add mouse and keyboard support to touch users then its even vs pc on a dogfight
Game is not for the faint of heart. If your use to clash of clans, prepare for longer build times. When you build ships, you don't have to rebuild em, but the more you enter late game, the longer the wait gets for fleets to repair. Higher end players have 1 day "x" hrs waits on their fleets to repair before use again. All about how you build your ships and fleets. The game allows for real alliances, real interaction with people ( to form coalitions ) and you can hit people at will. Don't let the "Similar to clash of clans throw you", you can be proactive in the game and pick and choose who you hit, until they submit, or relocate to another sector. It's not for the feignt of heart, flying your ships takes skills. You can link your account to play both on PC and mobile (recommend you make a Kixeye account so you don't lose your progress in the event you wipe your phone), and @TouchArcade, you can fly just as good on mobile as pc, you have to put effort into it and learn to read control features and functions. Also @TouchArcade I'd recommend using a different video for the FvF (Fleet vs fleet) next time, the game doesn't use flash anymore.
