The RPG Reload Podcast – 004 – ‘King Of Dragon Pass’

TouchArcade Rating:

Hello, friends! It’s time once again for a new episode of the RPG Reload Podcast. It’s a special one, because this time around Eric Ford and I have a guest joining us for the first time. The main topic this time around is King Of Dragon Pass ($9.99), and neither Eric nor I have a particularly long history with the game. I’ve played it a few times since its release, and Eric played it for the first time leading up to this podcast. With that in mind, we decided to tap one of our expert readers, a fine fellow by the name of Zack Kline, to join our discussion. He offers a unique perspective on the game, and not just because he’s a big fan of it. Zack is a blind gamer with a keen interest in hardcore games like RPGs. He was instrumental in King Of Dragon Pass adding full voice-over support, making it one of a small selection of RPG titles that are accessible to the visually impaired. It was a pleasure to have Zack join us, and we’d like to have him on again if the opportunity arises.

That said, this podcast wasn’t all puppy dogs and rainbows. I have to apologize to all of you, because there are a couple of sound problems with this one, and they’re almost entirely my fault. It was a rather hot day in Japan when we recorded, and I had a window open during the first half, which caused my part of the conversation to be peppered with the sound of the wind blowing in. We resolved that for the second half only to have some lag issues with the conversation creep in. I’ve done my best in editing, but a couple of parts still sound odd. There wasn’t much else to do besides re-record the entire podcast, and that wasn’t really feasible. I can only offer my apologies and try to do better in the future.

Even with those issues, I think this turned out to be a pretty good conversation. There’s a bit of Final Fantasy Record Keeper (Free) chatter, some Apple Watch thoughts, a sad discussion of the Spiderweb Software situation, and of course, lots of King Of Dragon Pass talk. The music selection on the break comes from the Ys Chronicles 1 ($4.99) soundtrack. It’s titled “First Step Towards Wars“, the main theme that plays when you’re wandering around the overworld map. It’s the remixed Chronicles version, so it’s particularly rocking. I hope you all enjoy it. As always, thanks for listening!

    4. t0panka

Well this was awesome but PRICEY hour!

    5. Jay

Just bought it. I recently got Leo's Fortune for $.99, too. Saved myself like $8.00! Patience isn't just a virtue, it's smart economics :D

    6. Blair Davis

what about the bonus add on?

      1. Brice.J

Checked the bonus IAP & it was $1.99. Not sure if that's the regular price or not though.

        1. wangyijie

The price for IAP has also dropped though I can't quite remember how much it was

        2. MrThickDick

It is, I checked that right after I bought this.

    7. Xexist

Added this to the mountain of games I never have time to play :)

      1. Edwin Ramirez

Don't worry, this game doesn't last more than 40 minutes.

    8. Edwin Ramirez

It's also included in the current Humble Bundle along with Blek, Joe Danger, Spaceteam (premium version), and Tilt to live 2

    9. Ravenheart

Did anyone else find this game incredibly boring?

    10. nijoos

Bought it. Not my kind of game but at that price, it's a no brainer.

    11. tubaros

Glad this is cheaper now as I've wanted to play for ages. Nice to play on the train. Stuck on the box level where you life certain sides of it to solve... Got 3 lights done and was then just opening various parts of the box to wor it out. Something to solve on the journey home - I like games like that, that leave you with an offline thought to ponder.

    12. Nightxx

Pretty short game with no replay value.

    13. Arnold

$0.99 is a fair price for this game.
