Hey iPad owners, if you’ve been jealous of your Android counterparts because they’ve been playing Boss Monster for the past week, be jealous no more: Boss Monster (Free) has just released in the App Store for iPad. The history of Boss Monster is a pretty crazy one. It began life as a successful Kickstarter project back in November of 2012, which produced the physical tabletop version of Boss Monster that went on to be quite popular. Then in September of last year, a second Kickstarter was launched in order to bring the physical game to digital platforms. So, video games were the driving influence behind the physical game of Boss Monster, but then the physical game ended up becoming an actual video game, thus completing the circle of life.
Brotherwise Games was the creator of the physical version of Boss Monster, and Plain Concepts is responsible for the digital conversion. Unfortunately, due to issues behind Apple approving the game, Boss Monster missed its intended release date on iOS. However, since the Google Play approval process is much more straightforward, Android gamers have been enjoying Boss Monster since last Wednesday. Finally, iPad gamers can join the party!
As with many board game digital conversions, Boss Monster is currently iPad-only, which is a bummer for us iPhone gamers. When you have several cards onscreen with text that’s supposed to be readable, sometimes the iPhone screens, even the mighty iPhone 6 Plus’s big ‘ol screen, just isn’t adequate for a game like this. Perhaps Plain Concepts will be able to create a UI system that works on iPhones someday, but for now only iPad owners need apply. Boss Monster on iPad is free to download with a simple one-time $6.99 IAP to unlock the full core game, and there are already several expansions planned. Be sure to give it a download and check out the forums for even more impressions.
