Diego Cathalafud has done a couple of rad roguelikes for iOS so far: if you’re a fan of turn-based roguelikes or something like The Nightmare Cooperative ($0.99), check out Amber Halls ($1.99) and Power Grounds ($0.99). Now, he’s completing his ‘roguelike trilogy’ with a new game releasing this April, called Arcane Tower. In this turn-based roguelike, you control a wizard who’s fighting off monsters to reach the top floor of a tower. You can pick up spells to help fend off monsters, but only 3 spells per floor can be picked up, with a total of 4 inventory slots.
Arcane Tower will feature randomly-generated levels, as per genre convention, but a couple of cool features are coming along with it. Daily challenges, featuring a level that’s based on the same generation seed for everyone that can be played once per day, will be available. Why more mobile games don’t include these, especially after Spelunky popularized them, baffles me. Additionally, replays of those daily challenges will be available, so you can watch how people figured out how to do well, and maybe learn something! Sounds interesting. The game should release in April, and you can check out the forum thread for the game to find out more and chat with the developer.
