Coincidentally on the heels of talk about how long people are entitled to updates on games comes news of another App Store classic getting a maintenance update. rRootage Online HD (Free), the paid and universal version of Kenta Cho’s classic freeware shmup, ported to iOS, has just gotten an update to make the game work on iOS 8, and to support iPhone 6 & Plus resolutions. The game’s last update was in 2012, which was a maintenance update to make it work with the latest iOS, with iPhone 5 resolution, and to replace OpenFeint with just Game Center. Previous updates added iPad support and other maintenance features – rRootage is content-locked at this point, but it’s just great to see the game continue to get updates to work as iOS devices change and evolve. rRootage is a classic thanks in part to its initial free release, and because developer Kenta Cho has allowed others to port and adapt his work to other platforms. The game is essentially about constantly fighting bosses across a number of levels in four different gameplay styles inspired by different shoot ’em ups. It’s got a cool abstract look, and tons of fun for the dollar you pay here. Plus, Kenta Cho is constantly making new web games, check out his whole collection online. The 1.4.0 update should be rolling out right now, be patient if it hasn’t shown up yet.
