The Sleep With Me Podcast Tells the Terrible Tale of the Origins of Free to Play

TouchArcade Rating:

kitten_bowlIf you’re looking for new podcasts to listen to (aside from ours, of course) I recently discovered one that I’m absolutely in love with. As I’ve mentioned on The TouchArcade Show numerous times now, my nightly ritual involves listening to podcasts as I go to sleep. I even own a pair of sleep headphones, which are a real thing believe it or not. Anyway, the problem with listening to a lot of podcasts to fall asleep is sometimes they’re just too interesting. You put ’em on to unwind and go to bed, and end up staying up later because you’re learning about something new from Stuff You Should Know, want to find out what happens next in Serial, are totally captivated by crazy stats from Freakonomics, and more. The struggle is real, I tell you.

I just started listening to The Sleep With Me Podcast and I just can’t get enough of it. It’s designed to help you fall asleep via actual bedtime stories with, in their words, “The perfect blend of boredom and engagement." The stories themselves are crazy, and much like real bedtime stories you may have heard when you were a kid, often just totally made up on the fly with little more than an outline. I’ve been looking for an excuse to post about this on TouchArcade, and a recent episode totally has given me the opportunity.

Episode 193, titled “Dougie’s Kitten Bowl Disaster Dance" covers the birth of freemium games in the most hilariously nonsensical way imaginable- Starting with the man who accidentally invented doing the Dougie, a lifetime ban from Waffle House, Kate Upton, and really loving cats wearing fancy hats. How all these things go together I’m not going to spoil. You’re just going to have to listen yourself. I swear that Scooter, the guy behind all this is my sense of humor soulmate. Anyway, if you want to skip through the intro and various shout outs he does, the story itself starts at about the nine minute mark.
